2017 Program Year Elite Status Buyback / Renew / Boost (as of 16 Nov 2016)

For the 2018 AAdvantage program year thread, see 2018 Program Year Elite Status Buy back / Buyback / Renew / Boost (master thd) .

"Grace" for those close to completing status requirements has not been offered since AA began the buyback / renew / boost program.

In previous years, AA (and US) have offered those who failed to requalify for elite status the opportunity to buy back or "boost" status for the following status year. That offer is extended for the 2017 programme year, and is be discussed here. E-mails have gone out to many members (16 Nov) with tailored offers.

Complied a list of people's offers here. List is current up to post #51

I qualified for EP last week. My status is updated, got the 4 SWU and today got the email to boost to EP. So yes, there is a disconnect.

Of course when I went to the website it said I was not eligible for the boost.

At least the website recognizes it, because I'm certain there are people that don't closely follow their account that wouldn't realize they were EXP already when they got that email.

Just got my boost offer. I'm PLT with 87K. The offer was $2499. I added it to the wiki.

I'm doing a mileage run in mid-December. BWI-DFW-SEA-DFW-BWI in F for $1060, all to be completed in 18 hours if nothing goes wrong. That, combined with an already-booked work trip will put me over the top. I was torn about making the investment, but then my boss gave me a heads up that I will need to go to China once or twice in the coming year.

I just received my boost offer. I'm at 89,660 EQM and got the $2,499 offer.

However, I'm waiting for some QR partner miles to credit, which will add another 3,200.

Then I have a mileage run planned in a few weeks, which will bring me within 2,500.

I'll try to remember to check back and post any updates.

Elite Status renewal boost

So AA told me that the airline would be carrying out its' boost to status scheme that it ran last year.... With what I have flown and what I have booked - I will finish the year at about 700 miles short of 100k.... too close to just let that go by... I am wondering if anyone has been this close and AA has just rounded them up? also... any idea how much the boost would be at that level? I don't really have time for a(nother) mile run but I also don't want to spend thousands of dollars just to get 700 EQM's.... any insight would be great!

Not sure why you haven't heard from AA by now. A friend who was short about 8K received her offer last week, but had pending flights posting so passed on the $1600 she'd have to pay (about 20¢ per EQM). If you didn't receive an offer by now, don't take a chance! I'd get on a plane this weekend.

As indicated in the Wikipost at the top of the page here (where we have merged your query) "grace" is no longer offered to those even short of status achievement by a few miles.

The Wikipost reflects offers to renew or boost status. You should be able to find an economical set of flights that will earn 700 EQM. (NOTE that in 2017 you will have to meet EQM or EQS requirements and EQD spend minima.

I do wonder whether this is just a scheme to get people traveling more on AA, rather than a scheme that people actually pay for.

It seems like in most cases you can do a MR from 90k for much less than the amount asked.
49,438 EQMs - 799 to remain platinum

We paid it....and let me explain why.

We live in the middle of the Indonesian jungle, zero ability to a do a mileage run. (we can't leave except during vacation time). Mostly we travel CX business, but wife plans to fly to USA an extra time this year with the kids in economy. The 699 is worth it for us to bypass check in queues, use priority security, use business class lounges, and board early. Also, we need the bonus mileage to stay platinum.

Her coming up 500 miles short was a mistake on our behalf with her ticket somehow being a different fare class than mine on a QR flight this year.

Whole family including my kids should be platinum this year so no more issues.

Clearly there are only a few threshold levels for the offers.
My original offer came in at $1799 when I was at 92k. I received a new offer this morning reducing that to $1299 with AA showing me at 99,951 EQM (if that's not an indication they aren't rounding up for qualification, I'm not sure what is - $26.51/EQM is a pretty bad deal even for the post-merger American), ironically this came after my flight last night and the 500 minimum which hadn't yet posted to put me over 100k for the year.

Got an offer when I had ~47000 EQMs to maintain Plat for $699. Now I have 48,500 and I just received the same offer.

Taking a jaunt to Chicago next week (612 mi) out at dawn, back by 10am, F on the return leg to requalify. Five hours and $250 is better than $699.

Total speculation on my part, but maybe it also factors in one's Helix rating where someone with 3 Helix stars who is short the same amount of miles as someone who has 1 Helix star would get a better offer as that customer brought more revenue to AA over the year.

Maybe it is not tied to Helix, but perhaps AA tracks our YTD revenue and instilled an algorithm where the offers are divided by revenue threshold (i.e. A customer between $10-15K revenue YTD will get this set of offer while a customer between $5-10K revenue YTD gets a different set of offers at higher price points).

Basically, not all customers are equal.
