AA Checked Baggage on 17-Hour Overnight Layover
Hi All,
I'm flying YVR-DFW-MSY in a few weeks and will have a 17-hour overnight layover in Dallas. I wanted to see if I am able to get my bags in Dallas and then check them in again before my flight to New Orleans, as I'd rather hold on to them myself rather than let the airlines do so for that long a time. Some posts I read from a few years back seem to indicate that if the layover is greater than 12 hours this is standard, but I wanted to double check. Even if it's not standard, would I be able to request that my bags be checked only through Dallas when departing Vancouver?
Thanks!

Ask at checkin. I often travel through LHR on a route that has a 20 hour layover. AA checks the bags through and holds them for the next flight. I pack a separate rollaboard with my overnight items. It's worked this way every time. I'm guessing if you want your bags, you can simply day at chrck in that you want your bags only checked to DFW.

Any recent experience with checked baggage on long overnight connections at DFW? We are 3 passengers with a 13 hour overnight connection on an upcoming flight where we will have checked bags as well as carry on bags with our overnight items. We would rather not collect the bags and have them checked straight through barring any revelations about the security of checked baggage being held at DFW. The caveat with our upcoming itinerary is that we are on an overnight connection because that was the Milesaaver option available however there is a later flight that same evening to our destination. (3 tickets with the Citi reduced mileage savings = approximately 35,000 mile savings). I will continue to check if Milesaaver inventory becomes available for same day travel. If the bags are checked through would they be possibly sent ahead?
