Upgrading to First on British Airways and U, Z (?) upgrade shared with award Fare Class Issues
Upgrading a paid Business (Club World) fare to First on British Airways puts the flight into fare class "Z" (?)a class that is ineligible for AAdvantage miles accrual (as reflected on the accrual chart) because it is also an award classification for a First Class award.
Upgrading a paid Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) fare to Business puts it into U class (?), another award fare class that earns no AA miles.
Members have recently reported success at having their upgrades acknowledged as miles-earning, but it may prove challenging.
According to successful member BosTravel, you may have to contact ask for AAdvantage Customer Service, and explain you paid for Business, upgraded to F, or WTP to CW, and provide them with your original ticket number(s).

Pro-Active Online Upgrades (POUG)
A. What is a Pro-active Online Upgrade?
The simple answer: it is a limited special upgrade that may be offered at a time of BA's choosing after your booking is ticketed up to and including online check-in. The offer, if it happens (and this is not guaranteed) will appear in Manage My Booking, either via BA.com or the mobile app. There is no email notification, klaxon sound or flashing beacons to alert you - so now you know why its called a Pro-active Online Upgrade
Please note, POUG rates differ from the rates offered at the airport (see, Airport Upgrade (AUP) cost tracking thread) and also the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.

Upgrading using Avios (UuA)
UuAs can only be applied to tickets issued on 125 stock. In other words tickets issued by BA or BA registered travel agents with ticket numbers beginning 125. Tickets sold by Iberia and American Airlines are issued on different numbered stock and cannot be upgraded using Avios.

Not sure if it is just my account, but I've never had non-earning tickets displaying in my AAdvantage account.

Earning AA miles on BA with POUG, AUP & other upgrade (consolidated)
Hello, AA Peeps.
New to OW, and had my first MR last week to JNB for the PLT challenge.
I have a flight booked in Y through BA.com on BA metal.
It's LHR-ARN-LHR and I have been offered a paid upgrade to Club Europe on BA.com.
When these upgrades are taken the ticket is reissued and the flyer earns the mileage and BA Tier Points associated with the upgraded cabin--IF crediting to BA.
Since I am crediting to AA I am wondering if anyone has ever done this upgrade and received the AAdvantage miles associated with the upgraded cabin, which is the equivalent of Domestic FC on AA.
I will only receive 25% of the miles flown on my discounted Y fare if I don't take this upgrade. I couldn't get an affirmative answer in the BA forum.
Thanks!!!!

I recently was ticketed on the AA codeshare SFO-LHR-SFO in World Traveler Plus (W). Both directions I purchased (at the check-in counter) a W->J upgrade and my ticket said J as the cabin/booking class. However, I was credited the normal mileage for a W ticket -- I did not receive any bonuses for being in J and my AA statement didn't show any record of J flown.

I was ticketed in W on my JNB MR last weekend. I upgraded at the airport to J for only $619 for the 11hr JNB-LHR leg but only received the W-associated miles/EQMs.

Have not done this in codeshares, so won't venture into the guessing.

POUGs should credit for the higher cabin, however, you may have to chase it. POUGs used to be reissued into revenue buckets but now they seem to be reissued into award buckets. If yours is reissued into 'I' you will get credit for 'I' regardless which programme you're crediting to.

Not sure why people are reporting different experience WRT to accrual on WT (Y) => WT+ (W) and WT+ (W) => CW (J) but I know the new LH program clearly states you earn the miles for higher cabin. The AC LMUs however do not provide additional miles and the T&Cs even state you are not guaranteed meal service in the higher cabin (but state AC will make every effort to provide it).

Just wanted to throw this update here.
Flew the following routes last weekend in PAID W.
PHX-LHR (flew in W): Received the correct W-based AA miles
LHR-JNB (flew in W): Received the correct W-based AA miles
JNB-LHR (paid at JNB to UG to J): Received the 25% Class of Service bonus associated with flying in paid J
LHR-PHX (upgraded to J w/Avios a month before departure): Receive the correct W-based AA miles.
So it appears that even with airport upgrades the ticket is reissued and shown to AA's system as the cabin to which you have upgraded. ^^

Earning AA miles on BA flights upgraded with Avios
Quick question that no one at BA or AA reservations was able to consistently answer.
I am flying JFK-LHR on an AA flight with an AA flight number upgraded from Y to J with an EVIP and LHR-JFK on BA with a BA flight number upgraded from WT+ to J with Avios. The reservation is in the same PNR and ticketed through BA.
My AA number is entered - will I be able to earn AAdvantage miles/EQPs for the entire itinerary?
