This thread is for the discussion of upgrades (using systemwide upgrades / SWUs or mileage+ copay) for the LAX-SYD-LAX route. This flight began with three class Boeing 777-300ER, but has changed to a two class Boeing 787-9.

...and AA also loves the thin curtains that don't block any light. I'd select a window seat mid-cabin (but also wouldn't worry too much. That's a good upgrade to score).

I'd say the outbound is still looking solid but you never know on the return. If you're going to try the Tuesday or Wednesday flights are the best options which you've obviously done. I'm flying out Thursday and return next Friday. I'm booked J but I'll report back on how the UG list looks if I remember to check.

I made this trip a week ago. Upgrade both ways w miles + copay.
On the outbound, I had requested my upgrade several weeks in advance. It cleared about 30 hours before departure.
For the return I told myself I’d be content with PE.
Right about 30 hours from departure I called in again. My upgrade cleared immediately for the long haul.
Neither of my domestic upgrades (ORD/LAX; LAX/ORD) cleared.

On AA73 last night there were 18 people on the upgrade list. The last time I checked it no one had cleared at boarding. Certainly someone could have after boarding began but I didn’t see it.
