General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.
Departing Passengers: Before your departing flight, please return your vehicle at the Rental Car Center. For transportation from the facility to your terminal, board the Rental Car Shuttle. The Rental Car Shuttle runs 24 hours a day and departs every five minutes from the facility.

Its good to be prepared and think about these things in advance. However, the connection you note is not "extremely difficult" at DFW.

I’m travelling with the family to CA on FEB I book with my miles through AA. So far so good until last week that I went through my reservation and find out that one of the connections is extremely difficult to reach.
The problem: I’m arriving to DFW from EZE at 6:58 in terminal D and my connection flight to SNA depart at terminal C at 8:55. I have about 60+ (?) min to go through immigration (We are non US citizens, collect the luggage, re-dispatch the luggage, move to terminal C, pass security and reach gate with wife and children’s.
If it were one of my working trip I wouldn’t worry too much about it but with wife and kids Im trying to avoid any suppressed.
Question:
1. It’s possible to make all that in 60+min?
2. I´ve called AA to change the connection time but they told me there is nothing available on my flight class. I was told that if I lose the connection I will be place on another flight regardless of the ticket class. Is this correct?

You should be fine. You have almost two hours.
Move quickly once the plane lands. (Bathroom ON the plane, not after it lands!
) When you get to the baggage claim area if there is a horrific line, consider splitting up. Maybe have 2 people hold a spot in line while two others wait for the bags, then rejoin at a spot where the line reverses direction (Ive never had to do this, just an idea...) only if it looks like a disaster.
After you recheck the bag past customs you will go upstairs and re-enter security. BE AWARE there is a second security entrance at D30 (i think) in the even the one directly above the arrivals is backed up. (Do remember that any liquids you might have picked up in EZE after security for the first flight will need to be tossed for this pass through security. Or stuffed into a checked bag before you turn it back in)

Domestic connections DFW
Hi I am travelling from JFK to Maui (OGG). Booked as one trip, however there is a layover/change of planes at DFW. connection time is 55 minutes, is this enough time - I am assuming luggage automatically transferred to connecting flight.

Yes, the luggage will be transferred for you. This is domestic, so 55 minutes should be more than enough time, assuming the JFK-DFW is on time (or delayed less than ~20-25 minutes).

Suggestion - familiarize yourself with DFW layout and obtain connecting gate from board immediately after de-planing. You might sign up on AA for updates concerning your flight, i.e. Gate updates, delays, etc. If in another terminal, you will need to use Skytrain. It's a big airport, but easy to get around. Just don't stop to observe the sights and sounds with a 55 minute connect.

I'm curious as to how dom > dom and dom > int flights can have the same minimum connection time in DFW. Shouldn't there be quite a bit more time for the latter to account for passport control?
I have a scheduled set of flights: SEA > DFW > LHR > DME first flt AA (but BA codeshare) others straight BA. Original connection time in DFW was ~1:50 now :50 due to schedule change. Is that enough time (primarily for the bag transfer)? The AA flt is a BA codeshare so they (priceline) claim they can't put me on a 10:00 SEA > DFW (not BA codeshare) but only 8:00 which would be a 4 hr layover, obviously much more than I would like not to mention having to get to the airport pretty early. If they can't accommodate me on a more reasonable flight, is a refund possible on a nonrefundable ticket?

There is no passport control when exiting the US so whether connecting to another domestic flight or an international one, the process is exactly the same.

80 minutes connecting time from Europe to SJC ?

My son is flying with AA for first time to US from Frankfurt (Europe) to SJC (SanJosé) and has a connection in DFW.
Flights timetable changed today and he has know only 80 minutes for connecting time (arrival 15h05, departure 16h25)
He has a F1 student visa and shall go through the immigrate.
1/ Does he need to register against his luggages or do they follow directly from Europe to final destination in US ?
2/ is this connecting time enough ?
3/ What happens with the tickets if he misses his flight ?

1/ After immigration he needs to collect luggage proceed through customs before redepositing bags at 'bag drop'. (At FRA check-in his bags should be tagged through to SJC; They still need to be collected and redeposited at DFW as described.)
2/ Tight - SJC should commence boarding from 15:50
3/ If the booked SJC flight is missed he'll be re-booked on the next available flight/routing through to SJC. This would be done at the 'bag drop/redeposit' area.

Came thru DFW on international connection Monday 12/8 at 4:00pm and Immigration was backed up in all categories except Global Entry.Our wait 20mins + was for luggage. From time we hit the gate till thru TSA for connection was 45 minutes. That was with GE and pre-chek.Note that TSA at D 23 was quite busy as D 30 was closed. The walk to immigration for us was considerable but obviously would be shorter time wise for a student.

Every time I've connected from an international flight in DFW, there have been agents meeting the plane with those orange Express Connection folders. Make sure your son keeps an eye out for them. With a connection that tight, I would think they'd have one for him. The later our flight is, the more of these folders they seem to have.
I have GE and pre-check so I've never bothered to look for one for me, so I have no idea what they actually do, but in many airports they get you access to a shorter line.

Yes, you have plenty of time at 55 minutes unless your inbound flight is late. I also suggest that you look at the terminal map above once you know what your arrival gate is. Many times it is quicker to walk between terminals if you arrive at a high numbered D gate with a low numbered B gate departure or you arrive at a low numbered C gate and depart from a high numbered A gate.
