General Information
Despite it's size and five terminals, DFW is a fairly easy airport to navigate and connect though. If you have any difficulty, look around for kiosks / booths staffed by volunteer Ambassadors - they can usually be spotted wearing "ten gallon" cowboy hats. They offer maps and terminal guides (which include dining and shopping information).

There is no need to leave the secure area to move from one concourse to another. *Exceptions are arriving international flights. In such case one must normally clear immigration and customs, reclaim bags and proceed through security.

Terminal Link's blue and greens vans arrive every 10 minutes and will transfer you between all terminals once outside of security.

Walking between terminals
- Terminals A-C and B-D (international) are connected at the ends by departures level walkways; the people mover belts on these walkways have been out of service at least for years. Estimate at least a five to ten minute walk between A and C, B and D, more if gates are farther from the connector.
- Terminals A and B are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts, all of which are out of service as of 7/18/19. Courtesy carts use this route by using lifts.
- Terminals C and D (international) are connected by overhead walkways (escalator or lift / elevator). This walkway is serviced by working people mover belts.

Q. If I am making an international to international connection, what is the process?
There is no international transit process in most U.S.A. airports, but (DFW and MIA have a ITI baggage exception for international to international if arriving from some "approved" international origins). Arriving internationally, unless you have been pre-cleared or are excused by meeting ITI requirements as described here, you must proceed through U. S. immigration (there are kiosks and a fast channel for Global Entry approved passengers, and a "green line" for those with no checked bags), recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through U. S. Customs. There is a "green line" shortcut for passengers traveling only with carry-on baggage (no checked luggage) and there are Global Entry kiosks and a short cut to Global Entry queues.
Upon exiting Customs there is a bag drop facility; drop your checked connecting baggage, exit to the landside arrivals area.
NOTE: if your connection exceeds 11 hours or entails remaining overnight, you will normally be required to take your baggage with you and re-check it within ~four hours of departure.
NOTE: Any liquids in excess of security allowance will have to either be packed in checked baggage or, in the case of duty free purchases at your origin (or in air from other airlines), presented in STEB (Secure, Tamper Evident Bags) with receipts to TSA
Proceed to the kiosks to get boarding passes for your ongoing travel, or check in and re-check your baggage, then proceed through TSA security to airside (see the "DFW Security" section). Your international departure will be from Terminal D, also your international arrival terminal.

Arriving Passengers: After collecting your baggage, follow the Rental Car signs to the designated pick-up area on the lower level of the terminal. From there, board the Rental Car shuttle bus. Buses run 24 hours a day, depart (theoretically) every five minutes and reach the Rental Car Center in approximately 10 minutes.
Departing Passengers: Before your departing flight, please return your vehicle at the Rental Car Center. For transportation from the facility to your terminal, board the Rental Car Shuttle. The Rental Car Shuttle runs 24 hours a day and departs every five minutes from the facility.

During Off Schedule Operations / Irregular Operations, cots with blankets and pillows are available for affected passengers.
During OSO / IROPS, AA will generally not offer hotel and meal vouchers for disruptions from causes not directly under the airline's control (such as weather). You may be able to at least get "distressed traveler" certificates for lower rates from AA, or you may be able to request distressed traveler rates from reservations center's or properties.

There’s two different TL circuits - you’ll need to take the one labeled B & E (the other circuit will skip those terminals).
In my experience, could be 40-45 minutes worst case (30 minutes waiting, 15 in transit).
I suppose there’s a reason you can’t connect airside, but would be best to try to get that arranged (or to park in D on your outbound).

Educated guess, avatexrs needs to collect checked bag and check in on separate ticket.
I would check, you may be able to checkin at D for AA (assuming) flight and go through security and catch the train in D or just walk (which would be faster than outside connection).

The only reason to take Terminal Link from D to B is to retrieve checked luggage (including clearing customs) and go to your car at B. Anything else should be able to be done (recheck bags, clear security, etc.) at D.

How are immigration lines at DFW? My family includes members who are not US citizens, so we can't use Global Entry. We will be arriving around 9am in August.
Also, does DFW immigration still have the special lane for people with carry-ons only (where you go through immigration but skip customs)? Or did that disappear during the pandemic?

40 mins obviously doesn't leave much room for error or time for hanging in the lounge but it's completely do-able if things are on time.

A very belated thanks for the reply. But since circumstances have changed, I'm re-posting my question.
Due to a lost passport that she then found (long story), my wife doesn't have Global Entry at this point and might not be able to get it again before our travel in March. Also, our connection time is now 103 minutes, arriving DFO from Belize at 5:16 pm and departing for SFO at 6:59. Still traveling business/first and with only carry-ons. A couple of questions:
1. How good a chance do we have of making the connection?
2. If she gets CLEAR, (which I believe is only in Terminal E in DFW), does that increase her chances of making it?.

I'm not sure if it is still around, but there used to be a sort of back channel after you cleared immigration with carry-on only. I used it a few times; the agents were off to the side, you went behind them, then through a hallway, and exited out a small door near AA ticket counters. When I used that, I made it from plane to lounge in about 10-15 minutes.
From what I remember, it didn't matter if you had Global Entry, but more if you didn't have to go to baggage claim, but my memory might not be right.
Perhaps someone else would know if this, "secret passageway," is still there?

I recall this also - it did have signage indicating carry-on only lane. It was a year or two pre-covid when I saw (and used) it, and it was fast. Actually, only noticed it looking for signs for GE exit - which at that time were along with the diplomatic lanes at DFW. Almost didn’t use it thinking the GE line would be faster - but would not have been the case. As you point out - not sure it is still in operation. (I thought it was for some sort of overflow handling.)
