I don't think this new ranking starts until sometime "later" in 2017.

Then let's start the "survey" when it does.:D

You simply got it within 72 hours of your flight -- it was not based on any "window". There are no set, status-based windows for international upgrades with instruments. Whenever someone mentions windows, they are talking about the AA domestic upgrade program, or more specifically "within and between the U.S. (including Hawaii) and between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Bermuda and Central America"

Hi all -

Just a related question on this thread. We're two AA platinum traveling today at 5:15pm from DCA. Tickets were purchased in March and (complimentary, 500-mile) upgrades requested at time of booking. Since that time, through this morning, there have been 11/12 seats open in F (confirmed with the plat line earlier today), yet our upgrades still have not cleared. It's currently 12pm, so 5:15 hours pre-flight.

This seems to be the case when flying AA Eagle for some reason. Any insights?

Very shortly (within the next 30 mins) you should be able to see your names on the upgrade list in the AA app.

Keep in mind the upgrade priority will be a 12 month rolling EQD, while your account will show YTD EQD for status qualification for the current year. So for example, on July 1, 2018 your priority will be based on EQD earned between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018 but your status qualification bars in your account will only show January 1, 2018 through June 30, 2018. You will have to manually keep track after this first year.

I have no evidence, but a gut feeling that AA has been keeping track of EQD since the fare based RDM change in August in this rolling year upgrade priority, so when the change is made later in 2017 it will be based on close to or a full year of EQD activity.

That is the whole idea behind this thread. AA is holding back the necessary inventory for upgrades to be processed. The general belief is they are hoping to be able to sell those seats for the higher fare instead of allowing those of us that have earned/purchased their script (aka 500-mile upgrades) to get them for a lower price.

Marketing 110, tease your customers to stay being customers.

And for the umpteenth time this thread: international long haul flights don't have a window policy. Just sayin...

This has already been stated earlier in the thread, but I would like to add my own experience this morning. Platinum traveling to DCA on 12/26, ticket purchased 4 months ago and on the upgrade list. I separated my wife (no status) from my PNR to test this theory. Flight has been F7 for the longest time and it is now T-23 and I have NOT been upgraded. I just checked myself in and was put on the upgrade waitlist. I then checked my NO STATUS wife in and lo and behold, she was offered to upgrade to first class for $55!

Lots of open seats in FC but no upgrade for this plat at the promised 72 hr window, however they are quite willing to sell FC for $55 to kettles.

Sounds like there needs to be a TOD thread (like on UA forum).

This means there are less elites on the first class waitlist than F seats available. AA does not offer discounted F upgrades to customers if there are more elites on the waitlist than F seats available (i.e. If there were 10 on the list with only 8 seats your wife wouldn't see this offer).

Good to know, so there's hope for me yet to sit up front with her. :p

I think the expected result is that, barring any IRROPS, your upgrade will clear.

britz Dec 26, 2016 6:53 pm

Finally had an upgrade clear (2 pax same PNR) at T-100! How exciting - hasn't happened in ~8 months. Too bad it's just SMF-LAX. Now fingers crossed for SWUs clearing :D

I'm not sure if this is what you mean?

Tens of dollars (used by UA flyers to refer to upgrades sold more cheaply to those without status than available to those with status)
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/gloss...tterSelected=T

I haven't heard or seen any instances where AA sold upgrades prior to giving them out, according to the program rules.

Regardless, feel free to create a thread for a new topic. If it would be a better fit elsewhere, it may get merged.
