Well, it's true that there is no harm in signing up. However, with so many things you could sign up for, most of us need some positive expectation in order to do so.

With BE points, your attitude towards them will be guided by two factors: (1) They are revenue based, not miles based. (2) They expire at a fixed time, after approx two years.

So you can get something out of them if you fly AA a lot and/or buy expensive fares. OTOH, the program will be useless to you if you fly AA little and/or buy cheapest fares.

If you are in the latter category, feel free to put my BE number in your profile. Ask me for it. Perfectly legal. :)

I believe the business has to have at least two employees.

Go to the Business Extra website and read their T&Cs carefully so you know what they expect.

I have an account for my sole proprietor llc. I was corresponding with AA about an AAirpass. The AA rep offered to set it up and I was even able to enroll my wife.

Now, I am left with 2450 points and a BXP1 certificate?

In other words, I can't 'refund' the certificate, then use the 3100 miles on a BXP2 upgrade JFK-LHR, right?

By comparison, if I wanted to upgrade JFK-LAX using stickers, I would need 5 stickers, I could request an upgrade, but if the upgrade doesn't clear, the stickers are unused, and I can use a few more stickers to upgrade JFK-ZRH or whatever. I think the BE upgrade system is less flexible but it wasn't totally clear to me.

I've only earned points, not redeemed any yet, but trying to learn the ins and outs before I do - thanks in advance for any tips.

The BE upgrades are paper certificates...once you claim one of these, the points are deducted and the certificate is mailed to you. If you request an upgrade using one of these and it doesn't clear, you can either hang on to the certificate and use it for another flight in the future, or pay $150 to cancel the certificate and have the points reinstated.

And you can't upgrade long-haul int'l flights, like JFK-ZRH, with stickers...:)

What happens if your points expire say, Dec 31 2014, you request and receive an upgrade certificate for a flight on December 30, the upgrade doesn't clear, and you want to redeposit your points? What will their expiration be?

I don't know the answer to your question about the expiration date for redeposited BE points, but I do want to point out that the upgrade certificates have an expiration date of their own that is beyond that of the points. Not sure exactly how far out it is because I am on the road now, but they do not expire on the date your points would have expired.

When booking AAdvantage awards on same route from different accounts, one has to have separate PNR. If one redeems multiple identical award vouchers (same routing), can the BE desk put them in one PNR or will they all be separate?

This of course assumes availability...

I had a Planahead economy award ticket leaving on Nov 8th, but I'm having rough time at work right now so I won't be able to go. Is there anything I could do to get a little back from this soon-to-be wasted ticket? I used my expiring points for this award so paying 150 and getting pts back aint gonna happen. Thanks for the suggestions.

When was the ticket issued? I believe you can change it for the $150 fee for up to a year from the issue date

Dec 28, 2013. So I just have to figure out a feasible travel date and change the ticket? Do I have to go through exactly the same routing, now I have DCA-MIA-SJU-MIA-BWI.

Thanks.

Used a BX1D AAnytime Award (domestic Y) for an employee today. Needed to get him home to MLI the same day after landing (on a separate record) at JFK from ZRH on AA 65. AA.com showed an itinerary available for purchase that got him back the same day (JFK-CVG-ORD-MLI), but Meeting Services wouldn't let me use the BX1D to purchase it; said it wasn't a valid connection ("you can buy it, but you can't use it with this"). I argued that if it's available for purchase, why can't I use the BX1D to ticket it; they said it was an illegal connection that was offered for sale but not for an award ticket (so much for unrestricted). Had no choice but to keep him overnight in NYC and he has to go back early the next morning (all other flights back that day are too soon after he lands from ZRH and he wouldn't make the connection, except this one which they wouldn't let me do for him). What's up with this?! Also I don't understand connecting at non-hubs, but I've seen it before (did HNL-DFW-MCO-JFK last year). I assume on a BX1D they wouldn't allow that either...?

BusinessExtrAA discrepancy

What is considered as Qualifying revenue for business extraa point calculations?

The earning is 2 points per 10 dollars of qualifying revenue. Some of my past months had $3000 in a month but I see only 74 extrAA points. Something is off here...

I definitely don't have the ticket numbers anymore but I can dig up the RLs and total fare amounts. Any thoughts how can I reconcile these statements?

I would suggest calling them or emailing them. They will respond. If you use a voucher to pay for a ticket, they do not award Bus. Extraa points on the value of the voucher used.

turkeyRIOO Nov 10, 2014 3:38 pm

If you use a conference discount code you will not receive any Businessextra points for the flights.

QueenOfCoach Nov 11, 2014 10:21 am

I just noticed a Business Extra flight for someone I've never heard of. Seems the guy put my BE number in his reservation.

I just called BE and found that once the miles are deposited, the can't be reversed. I got 65 points for "free"!

His company lost those points for good.

Take home lesson: Be really careful with your BE number and double-check. There's no going back.

I also asked the phone rep about posting flights. She told me the trip must be completed, then they post points around the second or third week of the following month. IOW, October flights points should be posted at the end of this week or sometime next week.

carsnoceans Nov 11, 2014 11:37 am

No vouchers or discount codes. All paid tickets.

Are extraa points calculated on tax component of ticket as well?
