FWIW - BE has been awesome for me. It does take a little patience, as the awards system doesn't link too well with the EXP desk, but it gets the job done. I don't think majorflyer's experience is representative of the normal quality of the program, IMHO.

Ditto on that. BE has been a great little perk for my company and it is easy to use - just pop in the BE account number when making reservations. ^

One wish --- have the BE # be saved on your AA personal account info.....so you dont have to manually input this everytime you go online to make a reservation.

If there is a way to do it...please share...

That's a good idea that I'd encourage you to pass along to AA! The number does pop up for me as it's saved in Firefox, but I have to remember to click on the field and AA.com should really do it for you.

Warning:  Rumor ahead!

While applying a BE number to an existing (ticketed) itinerary, I was warned this morning that this will soon not be permitted...  you must apply the number before/during ticketing.

Yikes, if true, looks like I'll have to tattoo the number on the back of dstan, Sr.'s hand! :)

I'm the sole proprietor of my unincorporated consulting business. Am I eligible for Business ExtrAA? And if so, is it worth it for someone like me who typically spends about $15-20K per year on AA? (I accumulate the rest of my EXP miles through CX and other partner flights.) I assume it doesn't affect my accumulation of regular AA miles.

FWIW, I've just received an email from AA inviting me to join. I suspect it's because a few months ago I obtained an AA CitiBusiness Visa Card.

Thanks for any advice.

No reason not to join. You'll probably be able to earn ≈2500 BE pts per year (points are based on base fares, but are doubled unless you originate DFW or MIA). It does not affect your AA mileage/point earning at all.

Definitely check out the enrollment bonus provided by hillrider above, which I've also now copied over to the Business ExtrAA Bonus Offers thread.

The BXP1 was worthless with 24 hour confirmation, but has value (except for EXP's) now that you can confirm 30 days prior. They're especially worthwhile for non-status pax, but a transcon is definitely the best use if you're gold/plat and comparing the upgrade value to the cost of stickers. For example, my upgrade was BOS/SFO on a "G" fare, $55 more than the lowest (N) I could have bought, and 6 stickers is $180 worth. I saved $125 cash, and guaranteed the upgrade, which as a Gold, who knows. Maybe J on a 767 would be better than F on a 757, but I'll be enjoying triple miles, so more than happy with what I'm getting.

I just called the Bus Extra line to use the BXPI upgrade on AA 118 LAX-JFK 3/21. She said she was looking for C inventory. Your quote above says A inventory for domestic. Who is right?

It depends. If that's a 3-class flight, business would be C. If it's two-class, first would be A.

Cheers.

Thank you very much for the quick response. Yes, it is a 3-class. Another question, for the waitlist, is the BXPI higher priority than a eVIP?

Cheers to you, too.:)

They are both competing for the same C inventory. AA does not publish their priority protocol, but we do know that it isn't always followed. For example, we believe that eVIPs have higher priority than miles + copay, but we have plenty of examples of miles + copay getting upgrades when there are eVIPs waiting.

Promos post in quarter flown, not quarter credited

Just learned of another oddity in Business ExtrAA's account(ing) system. I thought I was missing some promo points from a trip in Q3 last year. I'd been told that the points would post in late Nov, but they never showed up.

I emailed customer service today, and it turned out that they actually did post in December, but are listed in my Q3 Point Summary rather than in Q4!
