The way I see it, HVCs used to qualified on EQP by purchasing more valuable fares and being rewarded for doing so, while also avoiding the O/Q type fares.
Now, it seems one could fly a few 20,000 mile O/Q fares and still qualify for EXP, while earning a few less SUWs in the process.

Fair enough. But the reality of the mileage-running EXP is still alive and well. Not saying I have anything against these individuals, however it seems like this was exactly the kind of client DL and UA have been trying to rid themselves of, while AA now seems to be catering to...

As far as your first paragraph, maybe (probably even) I'm misreading-- but you're talking about 70K this year? Contemplating of MRs to fill in? It's still 8 SWUs this year if you qualify this year for 2016 elite year. Again, maybe I misunderstood.

I am just realizing how awesome and beneficial to most people this is. Under the current system, someone buying a mix of discount Y and premium fares is diluting their efforts, earning .5 eqps/mile and 1.5 eqps/mile, respectively, and leading to a confusing strategy as to whether to qualify on miles or points. Now, they will be earning 1 eqm/mile and 2-3x eqms/mile, respectively for those fares, leading to a more cohesive/integrated approach, and definitely more rewarding one. In the future, someone using a mixed approach will likely get more SWUs than the 8 they will get before. (assuming they were between 100k-140k eqps, before the 2 extra SWUs could be requested with today's system).

too bad miles arent easily manufactured everywhere...
