Is there a way to set up an award availability alert for an entire day on a specific routing? For instance, I need LGA - ORD - PHX on economy saver T space, however after the search, it looks like I’m forced to create an alert on every individual segment for the day.

Appreciate the answer, but this does not make sense for the following reasons:

1. The availability is shown on a per-segment basis, not on the joint trip.
2. When I have had searches with a connecting flight and one of the segments is the same across multiple results, the availability for that common segment is always the same in each result. If married segments impacted the individual flight availability here, then one would expect the displayed availability for that common segment to be different across searches, at least some of the time.
3. If married segment governs that overall availability, it should not be possible, one would think, to see different availability on the different segments, i.e. J0 on one leg and J2 on another.

As I said, appreciate the response, but something still doesn't seem right.

No, the availability shown is not "per-segment" it's based on the overall city pair searched. In addition, just because AA can change the inventory with married segments doesn't mean they do in all cases. If you search the AA forum you'll see plenty of references to married segment logic on AA flights.

issue with married segments & EF

Recently, I booked to J save award tickets for SFO-EDI via PHL in September. However, as often seems the case these days, there was no U availability SFO-PHL nonstop. So I had to accept SFO-ORD (U), ORD-PHL(T), PHL-EDI(U). [thanks MR for wasting our time with an extra stop!)

Here's the EF/AA issue. There is plenty of U available on the 737 from ORD-EDI, the cabin is empty. So a normal EF alert won't work. How can I get an alert when/if the middle segment is ever available as U on a thru ticket like ours? or will AA automatically upgrade that segment since we've paid for it as biz already?

Pricing Issues, Fares in ExpertFlyer not Available on AA.com or by Phone

Hi All, I could use some help. I’m attempting to find a fare on AA.com or via phone with reservations based on inventory and a fare basis that appears to be available on ExpertFlyer.

I’m trying to plan some ski trips for next year and want to get some flights on the direct JFK -> EGE flight. The best available fare on AA.com for all of January and February 2020 is $445.58 + taxes in G inventory using the fare basis G7AWZNN1.

I’m currently looking at doing a one-way trip on Saturday, January 18, 2020. I see O inventory is available on AA’s direct JFK -> EGE flight # 724 and an O fare filed under fare basis OUAHZNO1 for $174 + tax. I tried calling AA web support and the EXP desk asking for this fare basis and O inventory. I was told that they can only give me what shows up in the qik interface and that $445.58 was the best price they could offer.

Looking at the fare rules on OUAHZNO1, I see that it has an effective date of 02/12/2019 and no expiration date. No minimum/maximum stay requirements, and a 14 day advanced purchase requirement which I’m c outside of.

I get the following info from routing details:

It is common for a particular fare bucket to show >0, apparently meet all the rules, and not be bookable for a specific flight but be available for others that connect to that flight. In my experience this is most common with desirable nonstops. Somewhere in the bowels of the airline's computer system there is a switch that is set to only allow certain fare classes to be booked on a given flight in order to drive us crazy and glean the maximum revenue possible.

For example, I searched on United.com (couldn't find an example of this on AA.com) for EWR-EGE on that date. All fare buckets are >0 for the nonstop (UA1716) yet the website offers the relatively expensive "E" bucket as the cheapest bookable ($494). However, if you originate in ALB and connect to UA1716 you can get an "S" fare ($237). It's all about specific markets/routings...and the cheaper buckets need to be >0 so that connectors from other cities that the airline deems to be more competitive/less desirable can be constructed. AA (and UA) have determined that these particular nonstops will attract plenty of folks in the NYC area, where zillionaire hedge fund managers are as common as dumpster rats.

Perhaps someone can find an AA example of a flight that connects to AA724 and offers a less-expensive fare than the nonstop. Perhaps someone can also explain this in a more coherent manner than I have...

Also, AA has a bunch of routes where the non-direct flights are less expensive JFK->SFO and JFK->LAX are good examples. The fare rules usually have a flight application that say that the fare basis can be used for "Any AA Flight but not nonstop" or "Any AA flight but not on (a specific aircraft, i.e. 77W)"

This fare basis doesn't list any flight applications restricting nonstop or the Boeing 757.

That fare is specific to LGA departures only as noted by the "FROM-LGA TO-EGE " in the routing rules. You are searching EF using "NYC" which means it will show both LGA and JFK fares. If you search EF specifically using JFK as the origin, you will see that fare is no longer listed because it does not apply to JFK departures.

Thanks. I was confused because further down the routing rules generically refer to "NYC" for the map construction.

AA/Expert Flyer Available Seat Discrepancy

Looking at AA 53 on April 24 from JFK to LAX at 4:30 pm.
Expert Flyer show 5 available seats in J.
AA shows 2 available in J for $2459, but the seat map shows no open seats. That has been the case for the last couple of days.
Any insight into why this might be the case?

Don't confuse "available seats" (inventory) with "open seats" (unoccupied seats).

EF shows all seats in J are occupied, as does AA. They're willing to sell additional J seats (to oversell the cabin) and roll people up to F if necessary. AA.com may show "2 available" at $2,459, but all that means is 2 seats are available at that price point. They may be willing to sell more at a higher price.

Exactly, EF shows this flight at J5 D2, so there are 2 seats available at the D fare, any more and it gets kicked up to a J fare. (Try searching AA.com for 3 passengers and you can see what that fare will be, and it will probably say "5 seats available", assuming that's within the threshold for the warning.)

It looks like F has 3 booked, so 7 available (and flight showing F7 A7); presumably if you purchased a business class seat, the flight would change from F7 to F6.

Has EF stopped letting you see AA seatmaps? Can’t get them to display for JFK-LHR segments in either direction? BA seems to show maps without any problem but AA codeshares of the same flights, and AA operated flights on the same route show a message saying something like “Seatmaps restricted by airline”...
