AAdvantage Aviator Silver and Red Cards from BarclayCard
There are five AAdvantage-linked Aviator-branded cards by Barclaycard. Two of them can be applied for directly, the other three are upgrades or downgrades after receiving a Red card. The Many Flavors of Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator
Where can I see information on all available Barclays Barclaycard AAdvantage cards?
Aviator Red (On AA.com)
Aviator Silver (On AA.com)
Aviator Business (On AA.com)
Red cardholders may receive an offer to upgrade to Aviator Silver after a period of time that varies, usually 3-11 months. The offer appears in the online "Offers" section, if it is declined there may be no simple way to receive the upgrade. Be careful with your clicking! Silver benefits begin at the start of the next statement, but the increased annual fee won't hit until the next card-member year starts.

Companion Certificate: $20k in anniversary year spend required, issued about 45 days after you annual fee hits. Red gets one companion, Silver can have two. $99+tax for companions, round-trip 48 contiguous US States only unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii, in which case you may fly from your home state to the 48.

don’t they have snack boxes for flights over 700 miles on mainline?

Same here.
Tried to take advantage of the $25.00 food credit yesterday as I missed an upgrade on TPA-PHL (#2 on a list of 14). So on a 2.5 hour flight, apparently they dont stock the cabin at all with food (other than Biscoff)? Then I tried to buy a drink (Titos and Tonic) but then realized I'm in MCE and my drink was free anyhow. Guess I should have gotten a double.

My plan was to get my pre-ordered sandwich and then a cookie or something to get close to $25 as I can.
Not going to rely on AA to fully cater the flight, as I have seen too many mid-con and longer flights catered with a whopping 1 cart of food and its done and over with after MCE is serviced.

My anniversary date is August. The way I'm reading the letter about the changes is that I'll receive one more 10,000 anniversary bonus. Right?
I'll also be charge the new $99 AF. Can I wait for the Anniversary bonus and close my account before paying the AF?

I saw a few reports in March that Barclays was not allowing downgrades from Red or Silver Aviator cards to the Blue Aviator or no-fee Aviator cards. Any new data points on this?
I currently hold the Red card but would like to downgrade to the no-fee card (the new Red benefits aren't valuable to me).

Yes, that's what I'm planning to do. In my case, the anniversary bonus and the annual fee show on different statements.

Can anyone explain this language from the Barcalys' ToC on Trip Delay Insurance.
So if the trip is cancelled less than 6 hours before departure there is no coverage?
B. The kind of coverage You receive: If You are delayed more than six (6) hours while traveling to Your destination or return destination, We will reimburse You for travel expenses as a result of the delay. There is no coverage if the common carrier cancels within six (6) hours of Your scheduled departure time on the common carrier for which You have purchased a ticket for Your trip.

Can someone confirm that all flavors of the card carry no foreign transaction fees? I thought, at some point, the free card (Barclaycard AAdvantage® Aviator® Mastercard®) did have those fees, and you needed to have Blue and above to avoid them. But I'm being told the free card doesn't either. So wondering if I was mistaken this whole time, or if something changed.

Interesting datapoint here:
Flew LAX-HND on DL last week (tried their A350 Suites!).
Paid $28.95 for international WiFi through Gogo but accidentally paid with my Aviator Silver (Card on file).
$28.95 was credited to my account today saying “AA INFLIGHT WIFI CREDIT”.
I had figured that I had to fly on an AA plane for the WiFi credit!

IIRC, you need to have the red card for a year before upgrading -- and I wasn't "invited" -- I called and requested it shortly after my one year anniversary with the red card.

Just as another data point: 2 year Red card holder (average monthly spend of $350), no downgrade, no AF waiver. Card cancelled. I may apply for a Citi mileup just to keep miles alive and not expiring.

Upgrades working 06/13/19
I just upgraded to the silver from the red card today. They had not been offering these upgrades for several months while the program was in transition. If you have been waiting then I would suggest calling to check now. I wasn't able to upgrade as of last month.

Data point: Red Aviator cardholder, called to ask about product change options (either upgrade or downgrade). Agent said no changes are possible. I closed the card. No retention offer.
