"Additional Benefits of your Account
Elite Qualifying Miles
The primary cardmember may earn 5,000 Elite Qualifying Miles ("EQMs") after spending $20,000 in Net Purchases that post to the AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account from January 1st through December 31st each calendar year. The primary cardmember may earn an additional 5,000 AAdvantage® EQMs each calendar year when the cardmember reaches $40,000 in spending on Net Purchases with the AAdvantage Aviator Silver account during the same period. An AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver primary cardmember may earn the maximum 10,000 EQMs once per calendar year, unless the cardmember has already earned the maximum number of EQMs through another AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account. EQMs earned are in addition to the AAdvantage miles earned for Net Purchases made on the AAdvantage®Aviator™ Silver account. Net Purchases exclude returned goods and services, cash advances, convenience checks, transferred balances, credits, fees and interest charges. Net Purchases made by authorized users through additional cards on the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account will count toward the primary cardmember's qualifying spend. EQMs earned as a result of this benefit will typically be posted to the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® account 6-8 weeks after meeting the spend requirement. EQMs will not count toward Million Miler℠ status. EQMs cannot be redeemed for award travel, AAdvantage® miles or any other AAdvantage® program awards. Both cards will offer spend offsets to the required Elite Qualifying Dollar spend in 2017.[/B]
Spend $25,000 or more on a Barclaycard-issued American AAdvantage Aviator Red credit card and earn 3,000 EQD.
Spend $25,000 on a Barclaycard-issued AAdvantage Aviator Silver credit card and earn an additional 3,000 EQD - a second $25,000 spend will earn another 3,000 EQD.
You can not hold both cards and combine earnings. You can notvearn more than $6,000 EQD spend offset in one year. Qualifying purchases are 1 Jan - 31 Dec of one year.

I recently upgraded from Red to Silver. Does ALL of my spend (the sum of spend in my now-former Red card AND in my new Silver card) in 2017 count towards my total 2017 AAdv EQM and EQD thresholds? Or, just my spend in my Silver card (and therefore my small amount of prior 2017 spend on my Red card doesn't count towards any spend minimums)? Anyone found language on the BC website to confirm?

For me as well. My total spend across both (got red in February, silver a few months ago) was counted. I verified this with an agent on the phone before accepting the upgrade offer. Most sample data on here indicates the same experience.

I spent $40k on silver for the 10k EQM. I don't need any additional EQD this year.
Let's say I wait until 12/29 to spend the dollar that puts me over $50k. Is there any hope it will take a couple of days and the EQD will post toward the 2018 qualification year?

There's also bound to be a little bit of strategy here, since EQD contribute to your upgrade priority, and they are rolling 365-day totals.

Earn $3,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars when you spend $25,000 on purchases each calendar year
Earn a $100 American Airlines Flight Discount when you spend $30,000 or more in Purchases on your Account during your cardmembership year and your account remains open for at least 45 days after your anniversary date
I think that pretty clearly says calendar year so I do not think your strategy would work if your last dollar posts in January.

Does cash in advance count as spend for the 25K to get 3EQD?
I have over 25K counting some cash in advance and a little less than 25K if they don't count
I check on the website "spending analyzer" is over 25K and "rewards activity" less than 25K
I will probably spend more next week, so it is not a big deal, but i am curious

Stop using the word spend (as a noun)! Read the T&Cs. They probably say "purchases", not "spend", and "purchases" is defined as being the opposite of "cash advances".
So I bet you're only confused because you changed the word from "purchases" to "spend".

Cash advances never earn miles/points at any credit card, don't count toward signup bonuses on any credit card, so I don't see why cash advances would count toward any other so-called "spend" bonus.

I kind of have been thinking the same thing. I soooe to some Barclays folks. And someone at AAdvantage who got me the following.
“...we are planning on doing a sweep at the beginning of January for both EQD and EQM milestones attainment in 2017. Our understanding is that while it is posted to your account in early 2018 it will be dated on the counters for 2017 and should update on the American Program as a milestone hit in 2017...”

Just upgraded from Red to Silver; the letter from Barclay declared that this happened on October 24. When I log onto web site picture of card is now Silver instead of Red. The letter stating terms of my upgrade also stated that I would receive a new card to replace my Aviator Red card. It's been a week, no news, so two questions:
1. Does my current card earn at the Red rate or Silver rate? The letter said my credit card number and expiration date would not change, but didn't say anything about the 3 digit code on back of card. If I buy an AA plane ticket today would I get 2x or 3x?
2. For those of you that upgraded to Silver how long did it take to receive your card?
