AAdvantage Aviator Silver and Red Cards from BarclayCard
There are five AAdvantage-linked Aviator-branded cards by Barclaycard. Two of them can be applied for directly, the other three are upgrades or downgrades after receiving a Red card. The Many Flavors of Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator
Where can I see information on all available Barclays Barclaycard AAdvantage cards?
Aviator Red (On AA.com)
Aviator Silver (On AA.com)
Aviator Business (On AA.com)
Red cardholders may receive an offer to upgrade to Aviator Silver after a period of time that varies, usually 3-11 months. The offer appears in the online "Offers" section, if it is declined there may be no simple way to receive the upgrade. Be careful with your clicking! Silver benefits begin at the start of the next statement, but the increased annual fee won't hit until the next card-member year starts.

I think the EQM's post almost immediately, but the EQD's post when the statement closes, BUT they are posted "as of" the date you went over. So there could still be credit card EQD's tricking in until the end of the month. Yes, for people who need them to achieve a certain status, it's not fair to have to wait this long.

Earn up to $3,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs)
Each calendar year you spend $50,000 in Net Purchases on your AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver Account from January 1st through December 31st, you may earn $3,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs).
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I earn Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs)?
The primary cardmember may earn $3,000 Elite Qualifying Dollars ("EQDs") after spending $50,000 in Net Purchases made on the Card Account in each calendar year (transaction date of January 1st through December 31st). The primary cardmember may earn the maximum $3,000 EQDs once per calendar year, unless the cardmember has already earned the maximum number of EQDs through other Card Accounts and AAdvantage® co-branded credit cards. EQDs earned are in addition to the AAdvantage® miles earned for Net Purchases made with the Card Account. Net Purchases made by authorized users will count toward the primary cardmember's qualifying spend. EQDs earned as a result of this benefit will typically be posted to the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® Account 6-8 weeks after meeting the spend requirement. EQDs will not count toward Million MilerSM status. EQDs cannot be redeemed for award travel, AAdvantage® miles or any other AAdvantage® Program awards. EQDs earned with the Card Account qualify toward the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® Program elite status earning requirements each calendar year, subject to the limits under the Card Account Reward Rules and the AAdvantage® Program. Full details on elite status and qualifications are available in the AAdvantage® section of aa.com.

Actually, rereading that quote from the Barclay website, it is ambiguous. It could mean that you can only earn the 3000 EQDs once, no matter how many different cards you have. But, you could also read it to say, that 3000 EQDs is the max, UNLESS you get them from another card! I don't think the latter is the intent, but it certainly can be read that way.

I'd like to know the definitive answer to this question as well. Have a February renewal coming up, and I converted the card to Silver sometime in 2016, IIRC. I intend to cancel next month if the $3000 EQD benefit at 25K spend is gone as the card has no value for me without it.

I am not one of those who can do that. Haha.
All of my travel is MR-fare mini vacations. I don’t travel for work and I get a lot of time off. So I try to take a vacation once a month or so.
Just landed from a week in Tokyo. Bali is February. I only fly in J but rarely buy anything but Y or PE tickets. If you’re 100% flexible it is so easy to book flights that have upgrades available! I haven’t flown in long-haul Y in two years. LoL. And I am one of those $400 fare to EU or Asia dudes!

Sure you can, you just choose not to, there is a difference. But the game is and will continue to get much harder.

If you really needed a full $6K in CC waiver to hit EXP, I think you are going to find this game getting more challenging going forward...

Am I the only one who is bothered that a standard benefit is not appearing on the list of benefits and rewards page for Barclays? Certainly the web developers at Barclays aren't that inept....

And where do you think you will be better off? Delta only waives the spend requirement for their top tier with $250K in CC spend and United doesn't waive the spend requirement at all for their top tier via credit card spend.

And I can fly partners premium cabins to meet the requiremenys for Diamond with ease.
But it I like like AA so much more due real FC Lounges and I am always able to upgrade my flights into J. Good luck with trying that on Delfa for a reasonable sum of miles and co-pay like we get to do on AA and BA flights.
Plus us I live in PHX.

I'm planning on applying for my first AA card and picking up either the personal or business. Can I get both at once? If not, which one is better. 10k more bonus miles on the personal.

A month or so I just finished 75K miles for $5K spend on Business. There were also 70K/$4k offers at that time. So you might want to wait on the Business to see if these better offers come back again.

This entire saga does not instill confidence. One has to wonder what is going on between Barclaycard and AA, and how much of it is just AA being unreasonable/stingy.
