● Admirals Club has reciprocity agreements for access under specified conditions to Alaska Airlines Board Room, Qantas Club, and some individual lounges (e.g. DUB, DUS, FRA, MXP, ZRH etc. Please use the Lounge Dashboard "sticky" thread to easily find the threads discussing these other airline lounge access requirements and to the master threads pertaining to specific lounges. (These do not apply to One Dap Pass holders.)

● Note: Members are able to contact Admirals Club Member Services (see below) 24 hours in advance even when not flying and request gate passes for themselves and others meeting at an Admirals Club for business purposes:

[quote]VISITING THE Admirals Club WHEN NOT FLYING

Members not flying can access Clubs when they have airside access and the airport doesn’t restrict lounge access to departing passengers.

Members can not secure a gate pass from a ticket agent.

Members can not secure a gate pass with merely "declared business purpose" for themselves and others any longer (14 Sep 2016).

Members and non-members can schedule and attend business meetings in the Admirals Club® or Executive Center without traveling if they have rented a conference room in a Club with such and are registered on the daily meeting list. See below.

This requires arrangements at least 24 hours in advance.

FAQ link including a Club access.

Q. I am a member and would like to meet someone at the airport, but I'm not flying today. Can I get through Security to get to the Admirals Club lounge?

A: No. Only those registered in advance and attending a conference in a rented conference room may have access. Casual access / walking up to the ticket counter to request a gate pass is not permitted; please do not put employees in an uncomfortable position by asking.

To do so you must :
  • Present a valid government I.D.
  • Have your name on the daily meeting list
To add names of those attending an event in a rented conference room to the daily meeting list, call at least 24 hours in advance:
  • Admirals Club number/AAdvantage® number
  • Legal name as it appears on government issued identification for each individual
  • Birth dates, including year, for each individual (maximum of two guests allowed for non-conference room meeting)*
  • Location, date and time of non-conference room meeting
We will arrange for Security clearance with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to allow you to get to the lounge. This opportunity is available for Admirals Club members only (and their authorized guests), and you will be required to show your Admirals Club membership card, along with a government-issued photo ID.

*(Times corrected to current service center hours)

Q. CAN I PUR HASE A FULLY REFUNDABLE AA TICKET FOR ACCESS?

It's honestly not a good idea, as this practice is specifically prohibited by American Airlines' Conditions of Carriage (Link):

American specifically prohibits practices commonly known as:

...Fraudulent, fictitious and abusive bookings: Fraudulent, fictitious and/or abusive bookings are prohibited. These types of bookings are defined as ... or to gain access to airport facilities....

"* Here are the rules…I work at the Club

1. Only the primary card holder is a member. Note the word member... The member is allowed to bring in 2 guests Or immediate family which cannot exceed 2 people over 18 and all children under 18. For example John cannot bring in his wife, his 2 daughters and their husbands. He can bring in 2. If his daughters are under 18 they do not count toward the guest count of 2...

NOTE: Please read this wiki thoroughly to see the recent changes allowing access to authorized users / secondary or ancillary card holders.

2. Our computers tell us if one is an authorized user. (Your AAdvantage number and if you are a cardholder in good standing - jd.)

3. Choice of airline doesn’t matter (as long as you have airside access). You can fly anyone and access the Club. We might not be able to help you with your ticketing but you can come in to charge your phone or computer… or even use ours, all the while enjoying a complimentary glass of wine or well drink".

The $250/year air travel rebate is nice. Not enough (for me) to make up for the move to ThankYou points, or losing the 10k EQM, but definitely a lot cheaper if you are mainly just doing it for lounge access.

Beware AAdvantage Executive Card [marked for merge]

A word about the AAdvantage EXECUTIVE Credit Card. You should know that US Airways and American are NOT merged yet - so if you book a flight operated by US Airways you DO NOT get the AAdvantage Executive card benefits - you will pay for your first bag, you will not get priority access boarding, and you will often be in a different terminal and therefore not have access to a club. If I were you, I would not pay for the AAdvantage Executive card until the merger is complete. And by the way, when I learned this I was also advised that my $500 annual fee I paid for the Executive card is nonrefundable - no surprise there, given the dissatisfaction many must be discovering when they get stuck with US Airways before the merger.

Welcome to flyertalk.

I was incredulous.

I then read the fine print:

"This benefit will not be available for travel on US Airways flights".

I am surprised, especially since other benefits like 25 pct off in flight purchases work on US metal. Seems like Citi and AA could have done a fee credit for checked bags.

Ah well, almost 30 years ago, despite a flawless credit record, citi refused to issue me a gold card, so I've steered clear of citi ever since. Not sure why I would spend $500 a year on this card to sit in ACs when for $250, after deducting a $200 credit, I can sit in Centurion lounges.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

You should know we're a very active community, and most members are pretty aware of these issues. There's a lengthy thread about this card, and we'll most likely eventually add this there.

You'll notice we're very aware of the merger and which bits have been accomplished, and what's pending. This is why we still maintain separate AA and US fora, and have added a forum for the Consolidated airline that's taking shape - including discussion on things like the new merged AAdvantage frequent program coming in Q2 of 2015, how upgrades are being handled, reciprocal perks, etc.

The two subfora contain airline-specific information still relevant: fleets, seating, credit cards (Citi for AA, Barclay and their new US products, how the transition will impact them, etc.) You've already noticed the forum structure, as you posted here in the AA subforum.

I am curious how you managed to pay $500 for a card that includes full Admirals Club membership (you can arrange access to nearly all Admirals Clubs in advance, even if you're not flying at all - and US Airways Clubs are already rebranding as Admirals a Clubs - discussed in several threads) when the rest of us paid $450. And are quite happy with the zero forex charges, etc. Some have also been keen about the extra 10k Elite Qualifying Miles toward status they can earn through their spend.

Yes, I agree: it's probably premature for USDM members to buy this card; otoh it seems to work well for those flying AA mostly, and it's likely to be fully usable once full merger occurs in the near future. And you can get better use from your card by taking advantage of Club access (with two guests / family), etc.

Yes, of course. And how many of those are there, vs. Admirals (including US Airways) Clubs are there? Domestically, LGA, LAS, DFW, SFO and MIA "in the works". And SFO is great for UA flyers, not so much for us AA - US flyers.

The recognition of benefits equally across airlines has been slow and bumpy, but should be remedied by new T&Cs this next year and the merged FFP will probably bring more pressure on that. It's a bit of a PITAWAS for many.

What, AA and US are not fully integrated?
Thank you for being the first one to mention that in the "PRE" merger forum

Might want to read the past few pages of the dedicated thread for this card to get a hint as to why, unless you really, really dislike having lots of AA miles.

<redacted>

2nd - $450 is a good deal just for the 10K EQM, if you need them.

3rd - the AC membership is great, esp. when you use it 9 times over 3 days as I did recently. (there's another $150 worth of value)

4th - if you have any kind of OW elite status any of the Citi or Barclays card's boarding and luggage benefits are meaningless anyway.

I got about 1/3 of the way through and was bumped out because they had met their quota. Not very nice but sort of what you expect from Citi.

Who told you that the fee is non-refundable? When I got the card, the terms and conditions stated that the annual fee is refundable if you call and close the card within 30 days after it posts (or something to that effect).

I am planning to wait until the fee posts, and then calling to cancel or downgrade. Has anyone already tried this and been told that the fee is non-refundable?

I'm coming up on annual renewal. I'm thinking about dropping the card. Any idea of what retention offers are going around?

bmchris & LucWise, please report back once you find out from Citi. I, too, am thinking I will drop it in 3-4 months since the AC membership is of no use to me.

I'll definitely report back. I will be calling in about a month's time. I use the AMEX lounge at DFW. And the AA lounges really only with delays, since I usually get to the airport last minute. It's a pricey card for anything other than lounge access.
