Booking Award Seats on EY / Etihad Airways Using AA / AAdvantage Miles

This thread is about "how to" book Etihad / EY award seats using AA AAdvantage miles. This wiki is new, so anyone with 90/90 who wishes to add helpful information is, of course, urged to do so.
  • You cannot search or book awards for travel on EY (Etihad) on www.aa.com

  • You can search award availability on EY's website. Look for seats on flights operated by Etihad Airways labeled as "GuestSeats".
  • You have to call AA to book them. You may need to request the AA agent to look up the inventory one segment at a time in order to find the inventory in their system. OR:
  • Your best bet is to call AA Australia (+61 2-9101-1948 ) - although the call center is actually in Suva, Fiji -as they can see the inventory reliably, and you can book (or put the EY segments on hold so you can flesh out the award afterward).
  • A handy EY route map is at http://flights.etihad.com/routemap
  • The applicable AAdvantage miles award chart is the oneworld and Other Airline Award Chart
  • Award routing rules are in the wikipost of this thread
  • It can be instructive to read about our members' successful award bookings on EY using AAdvantage miles in the Success stories of award booking on Etihad using AA miles (>= 2015) thread. [Note: posts prior to 2015 about this topic (with the exception of a few 2014 end of year posts brought forward for continuity) are archived at ARCHIVE: Success stories of award booking on Etihad using AA miles]
  • If you find EY inventory from your continent but not your city of choice, as usual you can include any other AAdvantage award airlines in order to complete the itinerary. E.g. LHR-xAUH-DEL-xAUH-CDG on EY connecting to CDG-LHR on BA.

Is there a strong reason not to save a few miles that way?
Because only the passenger booked in 1st class is permitted to travel in 1st class

Book the other person in business or economy class and can expect that that passenger will be in that cabin

Okay, fair point. If I booked F for me and my SO, we'd probably end up spending as much time as possible in the same Apartment anyway, which is why I ask.

It will be very uncomfortable for the second person, even for yourself. The suites aren't designed to have 2 passengers in them for extended periods.

Another AA Australia Success

Saw 2 F and 2J available on same flight AUH-BKK in March on both KVS and Etihad website. AA US saw neither F or J. Called AA Australia and booked.

Yet Another Australia Success

Just to add more fuel to the Australia fire:

I rang up the US call center and attempted to book BOM-AUH-LHR-SFO only to be told there was no availability on the first two legs (not even Economy).

Called up the Australia call centre and booked no problem.

I'm hoping that AUH-JFK opens up again, though if it doesn't I won't be, you know, *horribly* upset.

First class Etihad not available with AA miles

When I logged into to Etihad account I saw many seats available for redemption from London to Dubai in 2016. However, when I called AA to redeem a First Class ticket they told me no availability from Mar to Sept. Do you know why? Thx

See recent discussion in this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...idated-25.html

Basically, the AA Australian agents are able to see space (assuming GuestSeat space is available on etihad.com, they should see it).

Give that call center a try.

Crikey! Suggest you check the main thread on EY redemptions, then give a nice Thursday morning call down under, mate.

Yes and yes, tho there are inconsistencies. Some NA agents cannot see any space, some can only see Y.

Zero awards?

A random, not thorough seach of 2016 is showing zero F guest seat availability on etihad.com. First time I've ever not been able to find good availability. What gives?

Well, I would imagine OP means USA-AUH (as most of the discussion on multiple threads has centered around) though I have done a cursory look for AUH-SYD/MEL toward end of schedule and saw similar results.

When searchin for availability on the Etihad site, I see available seats under First Guest, but they are greyed out and the do can't be selected. This is different from boxes with "sold out".

Does this mean there is no availability? Or just that I don't have enough miles to book this?
Thanks everyone!
