Thank you.

I understand that they might release more seats.

Not necessarily.Mrsdrron has the experience as a QFF elite status pax not being able to book a J award BKK-SYD on QF but as AA gold being able to have a choice of dates for an Aaward.Seems that it would be the POS restriction again.

AA can't see CX award availability despite being available on kvs and ba.com?

Is AA blocking CX award seats or is there something wrong with their system? I can currently see 2 J seats available from HKG-DPS on both KVS and BA.com. I have spoken to two AA agents now and they say they can see no availability and they can't even see availability on the days either side which have availability with KVS.

It is really important that I get these two seats. Does anyone know what could be going on? Is BA/KVS wrong or is AA wrong?

Maybe unrelated but they also said that the day which they could find availability (04AUG) there were 2 CX flights going that day. One apparently departed at 12:45pm but according to the CX website, this flight doesn't exist.

This thread seems to show a similar problem. It appears that AA might be doing something to UA starnet blocking on CX regional flights?

What Availability does the [Awards/CX] Method in the KVS Tool show?

Please see the CX Award Availability interpretational guidelines in the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...vantage-2.html thread.

I ran into this the other day with seats available on Asia Miles but when I call AA, no dice. But then I found another set of seats and they were available, so I booked them ORD-HKG.

If I had just one wish I'd wish for 1000 more wishes, and then I'd wish for AA to allow us to search international award availability online.

QF and CX availability - AA seems to see differently

I was hoping to at least secure one-way J award from AKL to BKK with hopes to fly on QF or CX. I checked Exertflyer award availability with QF (of course, it doesn't mean that the seats are 100% available to AA), but oddly, even with economy seat wide open (in the case of SYD-AKL) the agent says he doesn't have availability on QF. Likewise, with Asiamiles and Awardnexus, I searched CX availability (along with QF segment connections), I was able to find a way to HKG and to BKK on QF + CX, but the agent says nothing is available!

I do realize partner airlines and their websites for searching seat availability (especially on OW carriers) is not 100% accurate, but I was also wondering if there is an absolute way to verify seat availability on partners using AA miles. Is KVS tool the way to go?

With *A flights, ANA tool seems to be the standard of all searches, albeit, some airlines may 'block' seats on particular airline and routing (*NET blocking). I am hoping that something like this isn't being practiced on AA.

KVS is going to tell you what you already know as it uses QF/BA airline websites for it's OW searches, as does AwardNexus, which will be from the QF/BA point of view. So unfortunately no, the only way to know what AA's availability of partner awards is with 100% certainty is to call AA.

does AA have different award inventory(on CX flight) than BA/QF/AsiaMiles?

I have been trying to get a first class seat on Cathay Pacific, using AA miles.

The flight that I wanted hasn't been available when I checked it this morning. (according to AA agent, as well as BA/QF/Asiamiles websites). However, this evening, BA/QF/AsiaMiles websites all are showing availability on the CX flight that I wanted.

When I called AA, I was told that they showed no availability. Out of curiosity, I called CX in Hong Kong and was told that there were at least two open first class seat for award travel on the flight I wanted....

Does anyone know why AA can't see it?

THanks!

If both BA and QF are showing the same seats available, then there is a very strong likelihood that AA can book it too.

I suggest calling back at least two more times, each time feeding the agent the specific flight numbers, and see if you can find an agent that can book it for you.

There will be situations, particularly involving CX flights, where due to the airline system issues, it may be necessary to consult more than 1 system.

The KVS Tool supports Award Availability across all OneWorld member carriers. Most OneWorld carriers are covered by 2 engines, while CX is covered by 3 different engines within the KVS Tool.

I seem to be having the same problem. While I don't have KVS, searching CX and QF websites, I'm finding availability for C and F award seats on the SFO-HKG nonstops on CX 873 and 879 on Aug. 27, but have called a few times now to AA and no one can see seats. The last agent was able to find one F seat on 873. If anyone out there has KVS and can "see" these award seats, would love to know.

Try the JAL web site

The JAL Mileage Bank web site will let you check partner availability for QF and CX awards. My experience is that this is more accurate than Asiamiles or BA/QF when you want to use AA miles. There are times when Asiamiles shows CX availability and JAL website will not. I used the JAL method to find CX availability for awards with AA miles and it proved accurate. Just today I did a check on an itinerary I have booked for July and noticed more seats opened up on a flight previously unavailable. I was able to change an award flight for 3 J-class seats HKG-SIN for a flight 2 hours earlier than what I had found a couple of months ago.

Here is a search I ran using Award Nexus (only showing non-stop flights).

[BA] SFO-HKG 1 x F seat 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27: CX873

[BA] SFO-HKG 2 x F seats 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27:

[BA] SFO-HKG 1 x J seat 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27:

[BA] SFO-HKG 2 x J seats 08-27 + 0 day
================================
INFO: Recovering from airline problem: BA's systems are not currently responding
SA-08-27:

[QF] SFO-HKG 1 x F seat 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27: CX873

[QF] SFO-HKG 2 x F seats 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27: CX873

[QF] SFO-HKG 1 x J seat 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27: CX879

[QF] SFO-HKG 2 x J seats 08-27 + 0 day
================================
SA-08-27: CX879
Generally speaking, in my experience, BA is the most accurate when it comes to partner coverage in Oneworld. QF has been known to show phantom CX availability (as well as for IB and AY, from my own experiences), while CX's site sometimes show extra seats available only to their own members.

In this case, despite the QF searches showing multiple F/J seats, BA is only showing a single F seat on CX873. That correspond to the only seat that the AA agent could see.

I had a similar experience where the seats were showing available on CX website but not when I called AA. So I booked a different date. However, I waited a month or so and called AA and the seats were now available, so I was able to switch. Also important to note is that CX seems to make changes 180 days out. In my case I was trying to book about 210 days out, so I don't know if availability changed because it was under the 180d mark. They don't let you assign your seats until 180d out.

Also, I was booking ORD-HKG-MNL, and I was inquiring about F. F is not available on most flights HKG-MNL but I didn't care if this part wasn't in F. So I think it also depends on the AAgent you speak to and whether or not they are vigilant enough to say, "I have F seats ORD-HKG but only J on HKG-MNL. Although, interestingly, they always seem more than willing to book an F flight that's PHX-DFW in F but DFW-GRU/CDG/LHR in coach (using J or F award)...

There is definitely Award Availability in C on CX 837 & in F on CX 879 (as shown below).
