eVIP on through flight
I think I probably know the answer to my question, but I want to make sure before calling AA.
I am booked NRT-BOS-MIA-BOG on AA, and want to use an eVIP to upgrade those segments.
NRT BOS (AA154) is marketed as a non stop, but will stop in ORD and there will be a plane change.
Am I right assuming that it will count as only 1 segment for my eVIP ?
Thanks

As long as you purchased it as NRT to BOS then you should be fine with it being counted as 1 leg. However, if you manually seleected NRT/ORD and then ORD/BOS as the same flight number then they may count it as 2.

As EXP, Domestic upgrades are comped anyway. Otherwise this is one of the best eVIP use there is.
Maximizing eVIP milage could be DEL-ORD-JFK-NRT, which might be hard to ticket, but DEL-ORD-JFK-EZE is possible, 13505 miles o/w

I just booked EZE-MIA-LAX-NRT R/T with a stopover in LAX on the way there and a stopover in MIA on they way back. All 777 for a total of 24,398 miles using only 2 VIP's. However i am wait listed on LAX-NRT-LAX, but they EXP desk said it would likely clear the week before the flight.

How can they market NRT-BOS as a non-stop if it stops and requires a plane change in ORD? Not only is it not non-stop, it's not even direct.

Domestic upgrades are comped, but not always available. It is better to get confirmed with the SWU

Even with the stopovers, you only needed one eVIP per direction? I don't think I knew that. Very good to know.

I've seen several so-called direct flights that involve changing equipment. not sure why they would do this, maybe the route started out to be truly direct but things changed.

it seems pretty simple to book DEL-ORD-LGA/JFK-NRT and vice-versa for 14962 mi (each way), while PVG-ORD-DEL seems to be the runner-up at 14541mi

Now I have another problem...
The flight in question AA154 NRT-ORD shows in EF as C2
AA154 NRT-BOS shows as C0
It somehow makes sense, as ORD-BOS doesn't have a business class, so it can't have C inventory.
Now would it be better for me to let my travel agent split the flight into two segments so that I can grab the UG on NRT-ORD, or will it be possible for the EXP desk to confirm my upgrade on the 'direct' NRT-BOS.
PS: AA154 ORD-BOS is showing A7 as well, so the upgrade on the domestic would be available.

No, it doesn't: it has all business class inventories and they simply map to different cabins. There's something screwy on the through (NRTBOS) inventory: it never shows more than 2. Since you want to upgrade all 3 segments I'd personally go without splitting it and ask the EXP desk to queue the upgrade request to RM with a note explaining that there's availability on the underlying 2 segments that make the flight and if they could clear the through flight please. If that doesn't work (is denied for whatever reason), AFIK the EXP desk can then split the segments for you.
