I think you can book a second reservation with the coupon and then cancel the hold. (You could do it the other way around, but you risk nott being able to get the fare and not having the original reservation to fall back to.)

yes that is the way to do this by cx the hold and rebooking; however you run the risk of losing the fare or the fare on the flights you prefer.
on that note, I want to use VDB's to pay for these so I'm completely out of luck when wanting to use the VDBs and the 10% off codes
