Or did I miss something?

(Not suggesting either idea is a great way of gaining MM status, but if you are close....)
You can

1. Buy Miles - You pay, you get the miles from AA
2. Gift Miles - You pay, someone else gets the miles from AA
3. Share Miles - You pay in $$ and miles, and someone else gets YOUR miles

Transferring miles [moving from 1 acct to another] is less expensive than gifting or purchasing miles outright.

AA platinum for life with SPG amex points

Title says it all. If I transfer my SPG points to AAdvantage, do they count towards lifetime status? If so is that a way to get around the $150,000 cap on miles earned with the CitiBusiness card?
Thanks for your input.

Yes, they count towards lifetime status.

If you have gold status or greater on American, then you should not be subject to a mileage cap on your biz card (or personal card).

Currently every mile from any source counts towards you lifetime mileage count with AA.

So yes, SPG points moved to AA miles will count.

As for limits involved, I do not know.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. It seems there is a 79,999 cap per day on miles transferred. Is there an annual cap or can you just keep going?

Thanks for your input.

Your query has been merged with the consolidated thread on this topic, as this topic does come up fairly often. Thanks! /Moderator

Does Transfering Miles into Account add to Program to Date Miles

If I transfer miles into my AAdvantage account does it add to the total Program to Date Miles?

I was going to transfer 80K miles from SPG. Since SPG gives the 5K bonus for each 20K miles tranfered I will get a total of 100K miles. Will AA give me 100K additional Program to Date Miles?

Since this is likely a Frequently Asked Question, why not check the FAQ? The answer is both there and in the Wiki.

In your account info, look at "Program to Date Miles"

Take that number and subtract it from 1,000,000
The difference is how many miles you need to reach lifetime Gold.

Feel free to ask later when you want to know how to calculate the miles needed toward lifetime Platinum

Do Miles Purchased or Shared count toward Lifetime Status?

I hope this hasn't been asked, I searched several times with no luck. Do miles purchased count toward Lifetime Gold/Platinum? What about miles received by a sharing transfer to you? And for the kicker, would miles you earned but then transfered away still count toward LG/LP?
