Fair warning!

Once you get going on collecting AA miles for Lifetime status, you may need a 12 Step Group!

It is addictive!

But thanks to FT, I've gotten my Gold status and am working toward Plat.

I just spend too much time thinking about it, that's all.

When I was really close to getting my one million, JDiver encouraged me and tried to keep me calm and on course. I got so nervous about it, I 'shared' some miles out of my husband's AA account. Expensive, but worth it for my peace of mind.

It can be done if you read and learn on FT!

Do redeposited AAward miles count toward lifetime total?

That is, count a second time? As I sit on the cusp of cancellation of a first-class overseas trip for four, it occurs to me that Lifetime Platinum might be closer than it should be.

Thanks.

No, as they are not total doofuses at AA. The $100 fee to "add" as much as 125,000 or more miles would ensure eveyone would book awards to anywhere then cancel as it is obviously cheaper than buying or flying to get them legitimately.

Well, I'm not so sure. Consider that this is only about lifetime miles. To most people, these mean nothing:

a) They are not redeemable (only the redesposited 125K miles that were taken out are redeemable, not the lifetime counter

b) The lifetime program is unpublished, so 99+% of the AAdvantage members have no idea that there is any significance.

That said, I'm still sure that they don't double-count, even though the implications are minimal.

Cheers.

In my experience, I not long ago had to redeposit a significant number of miles; when they recredited, iirc they did not add to my lifetime miles. Merely one data point, but I suspect the program works this way - as it should, IMO.

Hahaha

I guarantee you if that would work I'm going to book 5 F awards in a heartbeat and cancel next week ^

As stupid and incompetent AA's IT is, unfortunately they havent reached this level yet

I guess with a cancellation they just reverse the movement instead of crediting 100K new to the account. You should think the accountants have an eye on this as miles are a liability for AA. So they have to follow where they come from and for what are they spent.

Lifetime Miles - Where do I Stand?

I have been all over the aa.com site, and cannot figure out where to find my Lifetime mileage total. I obviously see my current balance, but of course that is not my lifetime total.

Is this something I need to call AA for (to get my current Lifetime balance), and then track myself? Or is this somewhere hidden on the site?

When you check your AAdvantage Account "View My Miles" for "current" on aa.com, you'll see a table with numbers:
Summary Date
Program to Date Miles
YTD Elite Qualifying Points
YTD Elite Qualifying Miles
YTD Elite Qualifying Segments
Miles Towards Elite Upgrades
Miles with No Expiration
Miles with Expiration Deferred Through mmm. dd, yyyy
500 Mile Upgrade Account Balance
The "Program to Date Miles" are your lifetime miles.

What, am I Blind?

You know, sometimes it's staring you right in the face...

I saw the "Program to Date" miles, but my brain translated that into "Miles Available to Redeem." Even though there is no way I had that many miles available for redemption.

Sorry for the stupid question but thanks for the help, and for not insulting me!

Question: Re-deposited miles = new lifetime miles?

I don't follow my "Program to Date Miles" count religiously like I do with EQMs/RDMs. The other day I saw a big bump in my lifetime miles count - aside from my normal activity (flights, bonus, AA credit card, etc.). The only outlier is that I exchanged a coach award for a business award (redeposit originally deducted miles for coach award and then deducted the new miles for business award).

Just wondering if anyone has ever noticed this. I searched but anything to do with 'miles' and 'award' pretty much pulls up the entire AA forum.

Normally redeposited miles do not increment the lifetime mile count.

Question Does award travel count lifetime status?

I apologize for a question which probably has an obvious answer I missed. I know that award travel does not count as status qualifying miles. I assume it also does not count towards lifetime status. Is this correct?
