Don't feel bad I joined in the early 80's and flew AA many times and for years Citibank AA was my primary CC but when they left my nearest airport I had to use alternatives so now at 750K+ I'd love to dedicate my travels to AA and get that status. At least my son's tuition bill next week will help my dreams. Flyertalk has certainly help me too!

+1, FT has been a big help.
In my case, I joined aadvantage in 1990, had accumulated 670k miles by 2004, and had never achieved any kind of elite status ... then... waay back in 2005 I started work for an NGO that does most of its work internationally. Now, only 4 years and quite a few trips to Africa and Europe later, I have 1.8+MM and should hit 2MM in a few months. When you know a lot of the tricks of the frequent flyer trade (so to speak) the miles start to pile up quickly.

what now?

I was fortunate to have hit 2mm and lifetime plat a few months ago. While many of the miles were BIS, I did benefit from a significant credit card (Citi Master and Amex Starwood) accrual. In fact, for the past 25 years, almost all of my credit card purchases earned airline reward points-- first on UAL, and lately on AAdvantage.

So now what should I do? I've got plenty of miles-- maybe 750,000 or so-- plus EVIPs. I prefer to use my miles for international FC, but I've got enough for several years worth of trips. I still spend around $75 to $100m/year on the cards, but now that I've hit the 2mm mark, I'm thinking that I should focus on another card program. Any suggestions?

BTW on a slightly different topic-- from reading posts on this thread and my own experience, I think that everyone with 1.9mm miles lives in fear that the lifetime plat benefit is about to end just before s/he goes over the top. I was worried about it too. Maybe some day, but probably not any time soon.

Crossed the 1MM threshold this past weekend. Woo-hoo! I figure it will be another 7 years before I can post in this thread again

Mr. travelingmore reached lifetime Gold a few months ago, just before I reached EXP for the first time. Now we are chasing LT Gold for me, then on to Platinum...we hope.

Just hit LT Plat today!!! Today's postings give me 2,002,533 LT miles.

Of course, it happened just when I am hitting a point where my travel will be greatly curtailed just when I was well on the way to EXP this year ;(

You spend 75 - 100 million dollars a year?

Isn't 1 m = 1 thousand?!

Look at your own profile, 1mm = 1m x 1m = 1,000,000.

Actually, K = 1 thousand; m = 1 thousandth...10¢/year, eh?

(mm/MM = "million miles" on FT only)

M is the roman numeral for 1000.

At work I've seen 1,000,000 denoted by both M and MM.

sorry for the confusion.
Some businesses (like bond trading) use m=1000, and mm= 1 million

Some businesses (like natural gas exploration) use b=billion, and t=trillion (cubic feet)

Some businesses (like the Federal Reserve) use g=gazillion

hope that helps.

My wife just made 1 million miles. It's been way too many years since I made 1mm or 2mm for that matter. Does AA still give 8 500 mile domestic upgrade stickers? Is the recognition immediate and how long before the letter comes in the snail mail?
