No standby on International itineraries? A big downside to AA?

Actually, I think the standby policy within the USA is nice. US canceled their standby capability because they claimed people were buying cheaper tickets later in the day and then standing by for the earlier more desirable (and more expensive) flight, causing a lot of work for their agents and loss of revenue for the carrier. I don't know if that's a realistic or legitimate argument, but I do know the standby capability went away and that was very frustrating for a lot of fliers. I'm happy to have the standby availability on AA (both free and the $25 SDC) so that I can use it if relevant.
