MIA CBP Mess on Sunday 1/11

Does anyone know what happened in MIA on Sunday? Both the visitors and US citizen/permanent resident lines looked like 2+ hours long and extended all the way to the E terminal. I've never seen anything like that, and I go through MIA a lot.

Unfortunately, our plane arrived in terminal E, so there was no way take the Airtrain to the GE kiosks to bypass the lines. Instead, I had to walk past the entire queue. On the way, I was confronted by no less than 1 CBP officer, 2 AA employees, and a handful of angry passengers, including one that was trying to block my way despite me explaining that I was heading to the GE kiosks and not trying to cut the line.

NB: I tried searching with "MIA" +"CBP", and Miami + "CBP", but couldn't find any other reports of this mess.

This is not entirely unusual, unfortunately.

As this is not pertinent to a specific airline, the proper place for discussion of MIA is the Florida Forum.

You might also check the Travel Safety / Security fora.

We'll close this query now.
