MD-80 series problems at JAL
Anybody been following the engine problems that JAL has been having with MD-81/87. Not sure what engines are used on AA MD80's. Missing compressor blades is not a good thing...

Spokesman John Hotard said the airline has found five instances of cracks on the vane in the past nine years, but none of the instances are current. He added the cracks found on AMR planes were at the point where the vane is attached to another engine part. Hotard said the airline is waiting to hear from Pratt & Whitney whether the cracks in the Japanese airline's engine are in the same place.

P&W is the only engine provider for MD-8x. Engine subtypes are JT8D-209, 217, 217A, 217C, and 219 depending on MD-8x variant; different between AA and JAS.
