That and Airbus offered them a sweet heart deal. That no doubt influenced AA's choice for a mass fleet replacement quickly. Airbus wanted to steal AA badly. Airbus was also in position that there would be pressure to sell the slots for the older version at low prices, given the upcoming NEO. Boeing rushed in at the last minute with a great deal themselves is the only reason they got any part of the deal.

We're about to see Ryan Air do the same for some final 737NG slots with Boeing reports have it. Big order to take up those slots at great prices.

Not a surprise, but the bankruptcy court judge approved the agreement with Republic today over the objections of the American Eagle unions.

“The increased use of regional jets has been front and center in this case for some time,” the judge said.

This is another step toward AA getting healthy and competitive. Glad to see this approved. Those 175 aircraft will be a nice option for regional legs.

They are great aircraft so will be great to see them at ORD. It's a gap needing closing ever since the F-100s were retired years ago.

Yes, they retired back in mid-2002. They want to get rid of it.

Perhaps, AA will plans to order CRJ-1000. I think this is right one. They needs growth more.

AA retired their Fokkers in 2004, the last flight was September 8, 2004.

The former TWA 717's is must be what N830MH is thinking of.

AA operated as many as 75 Fokker F-100 aircraft between 1992 and 2004.
Historic American Airlines Aircraft Models

Fokker 100

This small 87-seat aircraft was purchased by American for use in its short-haul domestic markets and can be considered the precursor to the Regional Jet. It was built by Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker. It was in the AA fleet from 1992 through 2004.

They started retirement back in late 2002, but correct it was 2004 before the last ones were retired.

They replaced the old 727-023 fuel hogs on hub routes at RDU and BNA and also freed up MD80s for other routes. As RDU and BNA were wound down, the F100s migrated to DFW and ORD. Right idea, but the F100 was not a winner.

I believe that the -023s were gone before the F100 arrived. Perhaps the -223?

Nope. A good historical reference, although it hasn't been updated since 1997, can be found here. The -023's were not all gone until 1993, and the F100s began arriving in the summer of 1991.

That was fascinating, thank you. My favorite part:

Thanks for the correction and the source.
