I think that we can agree on new or different. Improved may be open to debate.

Change is good for many things and airline meals is one of them.

SAN-DFW 1225pm
1) Chicken Pot Pie Crepe with Mashed sweet potato
2) Beef salad (premium appearance)

I had the chicken pot pie crepe and it is the best lunch I have ever had on domestic AA or any domestic flight for that matter. Can't wait to have it again sometime.

Thanks Bateman.

Seen any decent new business cards?

1) Chicken Pot Pie Crepe with Sweet Potato mash
2) Beef salad

I had the first option and it was excellent. One of the best airline meals I have had on a domestic flight. The salad also looked like it was quite upgraded over previous fare.

Are there any more stories of improved meals on American? Have the dinner services improved as well?

Loved the service on this flight. FA's were very attentive throughout flight.

I see a trend here!

Those "very attentive" FAs couldn't be bothered to do a PDB service on a transcon?

DEN-YUL today. AC nonstop? Yeah right. How about DEN-MIA-JFK-YUL and 3,300 miles to go over the top for my EXP requalification. I love it when the cheapest fare is also the most miles. Never thought moving from SFO to DEN would net me more miles to the northeast.

Breakfast

Choice of egg skillet with salsa or cereal. Skillet was tasty although a little dry. And a little sausage instead of a half pound of potatoes would be nice. @:-) Much better than the old cheeze-wiz omelet though.

Snack

Choice of cheese plate or Thai chicken wrap with papaya and carrot salad.
Gotta say that the chicken wrap with Thai sauce and salad were both excellent. Only wish there was more than just two bites.

JFK (outer) Admirals Club was offering AC Member Appreciation Days chocolates courtesy of Citi World Elite Master Card. Yum...

Quick question re: DFW-ORD meal flights. Have an upcoming 12:15pm departure and it's coded as Snack/Brunch. Shouldn't this still be an actual lunch since its listed at more than two hours? Has anyone taken this route lately in F? We're in F on #2348. Thx! It also surprises me it would be snack vs. actual lunch since it's such an important business-traveler heavy market.

Looks like a lot of those shorter lunch flights are now snacks. Just got off of 557 MIA-DFW (11:15a departure) and it was a snack... Thai chicken wrap or cheese plate.

Apparently the egg skillet has not gravitated north of the border as today's choice was the dreaded cheese-wiz omelet or cereal.

Nuts served after 2nd round of drinks. Huh?
Snack

This may have been a lunch flight at one time but now snack... the usual Thai chicken wrap or cheese plate. Catering mistake today as I got double sized wrap. That Thai sauce hides a lot of processed chicken sins. I'm beginning to warm to the new catering choices.

Choice of the cheese plate or the open face sandwich (see pigx5's pics below). For sure, it's a downgrade from the old snacks, but I was actually surprised to get anything on this short flight. Last month, it was just nuts.

I agree, sadly, the new UA snack plate (includes a salad and pastry for dessert) is now superior to AA's offering. With the seemingly increased addition of snack flights in AA's system, I hope that AA considers both doing that and bringing back the more substantial options on true snack flights.

I sent an email to AA regarding the lame "snack" meals and got this response.
Please note I was very complimentary about how great American has been in regards to their food service and how I was quite surprised by the recent changes and how the portion had shrunk considerably. Was also surprised they gave me miles as I asked for nothing, just wanted to let them know what I was thinking....but it was a nice gesture.

November 1, 2012.

Dear Mr. ******:

I am truly sorry that you were disappointed in the snack meal you received on October 18 in the first class cabin on your flight to Chicago. Your dissatisfaction is especially disheartening as we know that part of the overall enjoyment of the first class "experience" are the amenities.

While we know we can't please everyone with our meal selections, we really do try! Our Food and Beverage specialists periodically redesign our first class service so that our offerings are appealing and reflect current food trends. At the same time, we attempt to remain realistic, in that these food items must be prepared in a small aircraft kitchen. We've found that keeping our entrees simple, ensures more efficiency when preparing and serving our first class customers.

I realize, however, that neither our explanations nor our apologies will change your opinion of the meal you received. As tangible evidence of our concern for your disappointment, in recognition of your importance to American Airlines and to ensure your continued goodwill, I have credited your AAdvantageŽ account with 4,000 bonus miles.

Mr. ******, I hope that the next snack meal you try when traveling with us in first class is more to your liking. Thank you for your candid feedback -- we've taken it to heart. Your business is very important to us.

Sincerely,

****** *******

Simple is very different from unsubstantial. The meals prepared by DO &CO are good examples of catering that emphasizes simple, delicious fare but that is also substantial.

While I think the changes to the snacks are appalling, I don't think you are accurate regarding the increase in snack flights. Yes, that is true on short-hauls like ORD-Northeast. But most longer midcons (e.g. DFW-either coast) no longer have snack flights in their mix and serve full breakfast, lunch, or dinner on all or nearly all flights.
