Pardon my possible ignorance, but was it not US
AIR that had/has the old 4 engine regional Avros?
And if these fossils are part of the US fleet, then
they join the other fuel-inefficient A319's that are
part of both US and HP fleets - - right?...
I didn't hear much in this thread about getting rid
of these fuel-guzzlers.
Meanwhile, AC is loading up on the new, efficient
Boeing jets (as is Westjet, but who are staying
with the 737 series, such as the new 737-700 with
winglets).
Is HP / US doing the right thing for the future? AC's
decision was very much influenced by fuel costs...

I wasn't aware that the A319 is fuel inefficient, while the A318's (which HP effectively cancelled) are definitely fuel inefficient.

with the 319's - - just like I seem to have
mixed up NW Airlink with US having Avros.
However, I seem to recall that A319's had
also miserably failed their performance goals
in terms of fuel economy.
But, I've been wrong before...

However, you may recall USAir BAe-146 jets (the Avro is a BAe-146 with updated avionics and engines) from the very late 80s/early to mid 90s on the west coast. PSA operated these aircraft, and USAir inherited them in the merger. They were all repainted and operated on the west coast for a few years before they were all parked in the desert.

Though the aircraft operated by Air Wisconsin for United Express are not Avros... they are original BAe-146 aircraft.... I believe both -200 and -300 series (difference is something like 15 seats I think). These aircraft are all about 1985-1989 vintage.

They used to be 3 x 3 seating which was apparently quite cramped... 2 x 3 now. The Mesaba RJ-85s I have flown on in the last few years and they are very comfortable in coach with lots of legroom (and a nice F cabin too!) so aim for one of them.... they likely won't be going for a few years at least.

I flew on an Air Canada 146 about 10 years ago. Seem to recall they don't have thrust reversers, or if they did, the pilots elected not to use them on both landings on my flight. Used most of the runway in Montreal LOL. Nice view with the high wing though.

The Avro is an update of the BAe-146 series:

NW operates the Avro RJ-85. Their aircraft were built & delivered in the late 1990s - not old by any means...
