HP begins flying its new flights YEG-PHX

PHOENIX, Oct. 20 /CNW/ -- America West Airlines
(NYSE: AWA), the second largest low-fare carrier in the U.S., begins daily
roundtrip, nonstop service between its Phoenix hub and Edmonton, Alberta
today. Customers in Edmonton can take advantage of America West's business-
friendly fares that are 40 to 70 percent below most other major carriers and
do not require a Saturday night stay.
America West will bring customers in Edmonton outstanding operational
service and friendly ticketing policies, which allow unused tickets to retain
their value for a year and allow customers to fly standby for free on the same
day as their originally scheduled flight.
"Edmonton is a city dominated by high-fare carriers. Now residents can
enjoy a low-fare and full service airline," said Dion Flannery, vice
president, scheduling, route planning and Internet distribution. "America
West also offers a gateway through our Phoenix hub to great destinations
throughout the U.S. as well as Mexico business and beach destinations."
Edmonton is America West's fourth destination in Canada, where the airline
currently provides service to Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver and is one of
five destinations added this year. The airline initiated service to Memphis,
Tenn., in April, and Cancun, Mexico, in June. New service to Monterrey,
Mexico begins today and the airline will initiate service to San Jose, Costa
Rica on Dec. 1, 2003.
America West Express, which is operated by subsidiary airlines of Mesa Air
Group, will provide the daily nonstop, roundtrip flights utilizing the popular
64-seat Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) aircraft, which features seating for six
in first class and 58 in the main cabin. This new service will offer
customers connections to 48 cities across the U.S. and Mexico.

The flight schedule for the new service is listed below

That's one loooong flight in a CRJ - but better than nothing I guess.

I think once you fly on one of these RJ's for that distance a few times you'll find your handle is perfectly appropriate.

I invite you up to try out AC's patented tarmac-to-tarmac Dash8 service here in YEG between November - March when it's -25F. Then you'll know that an RJ with a jetway is luxurious!

My handle actually derives from the lack of service ex-YEG that once existed here. However, once I broke free of the delusion that AC somehow deserved my patronage things are much, much better and magically more and more transborder flights have come on stream.

That's good to hear, PE. I had hoped the new service would be supported well and sounds like the feedback your getting and I'm seeing is that it is.

Didn't America West serve Edmonton way back when it first started?

Yep. When RC abandoned the route in 1984, HP picked it up with service from PHX-LAS-YYC-YEG and back in a B732.
