same PNR, different boarding groups!
No status. We have seat assignments together on one side in PE, obviously one of us has the window (so group 3) while the other has the aisle seat (group 5).
Not a huge deal for us, we can board separately, or we can board with the later group and hope that there will still be overhead bin space left. But it is most peculiar. Most airlines don't separate groups traveling on the same PNR.

It's to make the boarding process smoother. Since the person in the middle seat is Group 4, then your companion in the aisle doesn't have to get up and get out of their way in order for them to get into your seat. Keeps the aisle unblocked as well.
Is this a domestic or international flight? If domestic, overhead bin space is a non-issue. For international, it's also usually been fine for me on ANA. It's not nearly as competitive for that space compared to flights on other carriers.

Good to know about bin space.

11kg isnt much but a heavy bag could fall on someone and the bins arent designed to hold as much weight as the hold

I don't know if BA still does this, but for years their carry-on weight limit was 23kg. And yet I never saw any reports of heavy carry-ons breaking the bins or passengers/crew being injured by heavy bags. Just confirms my view that most airline carry-on weight limits are ridiculously, unnecessarily low.
