Any chance of buy-up on NH operated UA award flight?

Hello all,

I booked NH flight (SEA > NRT) using UA miles on UA website in economy and was wondering if there was any possibility of buy-up at the time of check in or at the gate.
I've been looking at UA and ANA website and couldn't find any options for an upgrade.

I was planning to book premium economy but couldn't due to UA system not showing NH premium economy in some markets, and SEA is one of them.

ANA initiated a 'Bid My Price' program for upgrades. 7 days prior to departure, you may receive an email allowing you to bid for PY. Not sure if a UA booking on NH-operated would be eligible.
https://www.ana.co.jp/en/us/servicei...rnational/bmp/

You won't be able to redeem miles for a PY upgrade until after 9/2019, as NH PY is offered as a separate class of booking or complimentary to NH elites.

Based on load and to squeeze extra revenue before conducting op-ups, ANA will sell upgrades at check-in. These can be as low as $500 for Y to C. You should inquire upon check-in, but this is not published and happens on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you for the reply. I haven't received any emails about this bidding program but I'm guessing that is because I booked it through UA. (we are leaving on 4/10 so definitely within the date)

I will ask if they have any PE seats available at check in. As far as I could tell there were only two PE seats sold when I looked so hopefully they will still have seats available.

By the check in time, remaining PE seats will be occupied by ANA's elite members by free upgrade. They can choose PE seats at T-24 instead of their original Y seats.

Just to set your expectations properly, I’d say the chances of a buy up are almost entirely zero on NH in all cases and especially on award tickets, even lower chances if not using NH miles but I’m not even sure that matters. NH protects premium cabins, even PY, although I’d hardly call it that.
