Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori, the first Italian private rail operator, will launch in spring 2011 its offer to travel by train at high speed in Italy. "We believe acquire by 2015 a market share of 20%," said yesterday in Rome, the managing director of NTV, Giuseppe Sciarrone, announcing a strong competition with the public company Trenitalia but also with airlines Alitalia and Air One. "A private and 100% Italian company," said Luca Di Montezemolo, president of NTV, but also of the Fiat Group and Ferrari.

With his friends, entrepreneurs Diego Della Valle and Gianni Punzo, he controls 54.5% of the new operator. The bank Intesa-Sanpaolo holds 21.4% of NTV, and the insurer Generali 16.1%.

The railway operator will use 25 trains at very high speed (AGV) manufactured by Alstom, which cost 650 million euros, plus approximately 900 million total cost of maintenance. NTV plans to hire a thousand employees.
