Anchorage in August
Visiting Anchorage the second week of August (9-13 traveling Mon & Fri) and would like advice on the best things to do. Will be staying downtown and prefer not to rent a car. Physical disabilities limit walking to only a couple of miles at a time. Have looked at the Alaska Rail website for possible train trips to Seward & Resurrection Bay (is Goldstar worth the extra $200/person?). Open to the arts, nature and definitely food! Thanks.

If your budget can handle it, I'd definitely try to take a flightseeing trip - Denali, Prince William Sound, bear viewing, Chugach Mountains and Knik Glacier... pretty much anything you can swing. A 6 hour or longer Kenai Fjords boat tour from Seward is a main reason most people go to Seward and is well worth it to see glaciers and marine wildlife.
if you are interested, a day trip to hike on Matanuska Glacier with a guide is often a highlight for many people. I believe Salmonberry Tours offers a combination with transportation.

Good suggestions above, also in town the Anchorage Museum is well worthwhile especially on a rainy day, and the Flattop Mountain Shuttle can give you a few hours well above the city with beautiful views, hiking in Chugach State Park as little or as much as you can or would like. The public bus system is extensive enough, especially this year when rental cars are very expensive, more information at https://www.muni.org/Departments/tra...sandstops.aspx
There is also an hourly shuttle this summer to Girdwood and other locations down Turnagain Arm, but I don't have any personal experience with the services provided. https://www.turnagainshuttle.com/
