Question Things to do during long ANC layover?

Hi guys,

My friend and his family are going to be stuck in ANC for 9-10 hours and were wondering what to do. They will be stuck there this upcoming Saturday, Aug 28th.

They are currently on a cruise from Vancouver and will land in Whittier. They get bussed from Whitter and arrive at ANC at around 10:30 AM on Saturday. They will basically be stuck in ANC until their flight out at 9:30 PM about 11 hours later.

Asked me for suggestions on what to do, but it's been years since I lived in ANC and I remember ANC was pretty far from anything. Anybody have any suggestions? He's there with his brother and his parents (in their 70's and not overly mobile.) He does want to see or experience things unique to Anchorage, not just eat up idle time until departure.

Thanks!
-Steve

I thought visiting downtown ANC was fun. They should find plenty to do, which its only about 15 minutes away from the airport. ULU factory is close, the museum, etc.

Rent a car and go to the Alaska Native Heritage Center http://www.alaskanative.net and the Anchorage Museum http://www.anchoragemuseum.org. Before or just after the museum, stop in at Orso http://www.orsoalaska.com for a meal and have some of their fabulous smoked salmon chowder.
