BA awards taxes and fees higher when booked on AS?

Just noticed that AS charges higher taxes and fees for BA business class redemptions vs when awards booked on AA. They even charge more when booking J award vs F award ($900+ for J vs a bit under $900 for F). It looks like they add $150 extra in carrier imposed surcharges vs AA. Anyone know what’s going on?

AA pricing

AS pricing with extra $150 tacked on

BA YQ charges different prices depending on point of sale. Here’s what happens if you book SFO-CDG on BA with CX AsiaMiles.

Surprisingly enough BA charges this: 116250 Avios + $ 451.00

I can't see the actual breakdown as I have only 20K BA Avios. But looking at the posts above, that suggests YQ is $400.

Interesting, when I search BA I get anywhere between $400-900 in surcharges. I guess they are going dynamic even for themselves.

Generally BA gives people a worse BOHICA ex-US than ex-EU. Case in point: same route, different pricing depending on origin in CDG vs. SFO/SJC.

Yep knew about the ex-US vs ex-EU but never knew that they charged differently based on which program you are using etc. At least their F surcharges are not too bad when booking with AS, actually less than J many times. Sadly its not much to look forward to.

BA has brought in new pricing that jacks up the Avios price and reduces the surcharges. It's not really relevant for comparing against partner redemptions.

FWIW, $850 is currently standard surcharge for revenue US-EU biz fares for legacy 3. Not sure why it is only $700 for AA awards vs. $850 for AS awards, but the $850 value does match revenue fare surcharges.

For those in the PacNW, you can still shave ~30% off by heading up to YVR and originating there. I’m seeing $890 if originating in SEA, but add in YVR-SEA and the surcharge drops to $605. AA issued BA awards ex-YVR are even cheaper, varying between $320 and $390. Given the club suite on the YVR-LHR and YVR-LGW routes, this is a pretty decent deal (particularly w AA miles).
