Seems so much easier to just wait and see what happens rather than being constantly negative about any new route, discontinued route, seat configuration, which airline loves San Francisco the most, etc.
Still quite happy about El Paso, personally. Hope it sticks.

If VX had spent more time looking at routes that were not well served by every other airline they may still be around. Alaska has been successfully adding service to smaller cities like Omaha, Wichita, Oklahoma City and Charleston for some time now. You can point to the handful of failed routes from LAX and SFO, but some of those were routes that VX could not profitably operate and AS decided to shed - while a few were routes that AS took a chance on. AS has been successful over these years and not because they got lucky.

There is a lot of cool stuff near ELP
Well, that's perhaps a little unfair, because while El Paso maybe isn't the most appealing place, Las Cruces, New Mexico - 100,000 people - and old Mesilla adjacent to Las Cruces are absolutely beautiful places and only 20 minutes from El Paso, which has the closest airport. And, just down the road from Las Cruces is White Sands National Park (and Missile Range) and the Sierra Blanca Mountains, and resorts with skiing (Ski Apache, Cloudcroft), hiking, wineries, etc.... The Sunday brunch at the 100+ year old German-looking "Lodge at Cloudcroft" is excellent, I might add. So, lots of tourist reasons to go to ELP (and a lot cheaper than Santa Fe if you want to experience New Mexico).

Does anyone know what happened with the flights today? A friend was supposed to be on ELP-SEA tonight, but has rerouted to avoid missing what had been a very safe connection.
AS2525 (SEA-ELP) started out on-time, but ended up late after what looks like a go-around.
AS2320 (ELP-SAN) left 3 hours late, leading to scheduled delays for SAN-ELP (2321) and ELP-SEA (2528).
It doesn't seem like the single aircraft approach bodes well for this route...
[Edit: It looks like there was an aircraft swap in SAN, reducing the delay to "only" 1.5 hours.]

Agree, trials by AS to use Skywest or horizon to run the midcons are effective in identifying needs. I am one of those that have used the direct SEA to various midcons to also increase my personal business opportunities. It has actually been a nice superficial means to correlate growth of a city of relationships of one of the major seattle corporations as they move to a city direct from Seattle single round trip daily. What business relationship does Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks, Expedia, Costco, etc have growing in El Paso????
