Alaska Airlines announces daily nonstop service to El Paso, Texas

New routes will connect Seattle and San Diego to the West Texas city starting this winter

SEATTLE, Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Alaska Airlines announced today it will begin daily nonstop service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and El Paso International Airport, along with daily nonstop service between El Paso and San Diego International Airport. El Paso is a new destination for Alaska.

The new service is scheduled to begin Feb. 19, 2019, offering the only nonstop flights from Seattle and San Diego to El Paso. The nonstop flights that will connect Seattle and El Paso will help improve the travel time for employees who commute between Western Washington and West Texas – two regions with significant industry and business ties.

Alaska has considered El Paso as a new destination for some time. It's currently the largest underserved market from Seattle within the range of our Embraer 175 jets. That aircraft – with three cabin classes – is a perfect fit for this route, which will be flown by Horizon Air.

"We're pleased to add another exciting destination to our route map with our new service to El Paso," said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning at Alaska. "We're connecting two of our key West Coast gateways – Seattle and San Diego – with our first destination in West Texas. We're bringing our low fares, great customer service and industry leading loyalty program to guests in a new region of the west for Alaska."

"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Alaska Airlines to El Paso!" said Monica Lombraña A.A.E., Managing Director of El Paso International Airport and International Bridges. "Alaska Airlines enhances connectivity for both leisure and business travelers with daily flights to the West Coast and beyond. We deeply appreciate their investment in our community and look forward to a lasting and successful partnership."

El Paso will become Alaska's third destination to Texas served from San Diego, joining Austin and Dallas Love Field.

"We're thrilled Alaska Airlines has continued its growth here in San Diego with the announcement of its third nonstop destination to Texas being daily year-round service to El Paso," said Angela Shafer-Payne, San Diego International Airport's COO/Vice President, Operations. "This important addition offers a convenient option for San Diegans to reach western Texas, and for the western region to access San Diego's vibrant communities and beaches."Effective Date

Always great to see a new route out of SAN! With GEG & ELP now in the fold and PAE hopefully coming soon, I’d love for AS to keep the ball rolling. Now we just have to cross our fingers and hope that their will be an addition of gates at SAN once the move to T2 is complete so that more routes could be added...

AS needs a new PR person. Yesterday was Marty Robbins' birthday.

Not quite as famous as one of his other songs, but it starts with him flying into El Paso.

Interesting scheduling, using the ELP-SAN-ELP leg to allow a morning SEA-ELP flight and an evening ELP-SEA flight, well-timed in both directions for local ex-SEA traffic (if not traffic connecting beyond SEA).

Well there’s a city I never thought I’d see Chester in. Fun fact about El Paso: it’s home to the only Men’s NCAA basketball champion in the state of Texas.

Think it might be SJC vs SAN from what I read, but interesting for sure.

That said, AS is ending ABQ to SFO and SNA. The carousel keeps turning.

I saw something about Southwest going to from its single Sunday non-stop to year round. So with competition its unlikely to stay. Are there that many folks from Seattle flying to El Paso? Maybe UW will get into the Sun Bowl and that will help; been to El Paso twice, don't think I would go back unless I really had to. Not somewhere I have any interest in going.
