SAN-MRY award pricing
AS has nonstop flight. I see it for 10k each way on AS.com. I also see it on AA.com, which means it must be the lowest Y level, right? But according to the chart, <700 miles starts at 5k each way. Shouldn't it be 5k then?

I'm talking about redeeming AS miles for an AS <700 miles flight. I only mention it showing on a partner engine to indicate it must be available at the lowest Y level (right?), which AS chart says is a 5k redemption. Yet it shows as 10k on AS.com live booking. Hence my confusion.

That’s not how it works (“if it’s under 700 miles it will always be 5k”). It can be as low as 5k. If AS isn’t filing the cheapest coach fares for a market, it may be more expensive. That has ALWAYS been how it works - you are not guaranteed a 5k redemption. Sea SEA-OAK for an illustration.
In SEA-YKM's case, I randomly pulled up a lowest price advance paid coach fare. It's a K fare, which means AS hasn't filed G/T fares for that market (which tend to be the ones that get 5k redemption values). MRY-SAN is similar (the lowest price advance fare is a K fare).
Basically, if you want cheaper award prices you need AS to file fares in cheaper fare buckets. If they don't the price of the award doesn't go down.

These book into W still right? So the logic appears to require fares filed (and space) of G,T or R for the super saver awards to appear?

Yep, W for awards then fare class for sale determines when lower awards are available. It's similar to U for upgrades where fare determines when you can grab the space.
