PDX Crowding

Does anyone know if anything is being done about the overcrowding at PDX in the A gates? I was in "the pit" today and it was terrible - no room, screaming PA system and no seats.

I'm not an expert in terminal operations, but the B gates seem underutilized.

They are underutilized, but I think they are only configured for the E175s and bigger. Also, the planes would be close then and we would miss the ridiculous hike to them that we get from the pit. Can't have that

There are more E175 flights and many of them operate from the A gates. Let's move some of them to the B gates.

That area does get crowded, but the good news for me is that the only time I typically need to fly out of the A gates, I'm on the SEA shuttle so I don't need to walk down to that big waiting room. Since it's one of my least favorite parts of the airport (second only to the downstairs E gates that the old United Express flights use to depart from), I just time it so that I either hand out in Concourse C (lots of restaurants, Hollywood theatre, etc.) or the Alaska Lounge until it's about time for boarding the SEA flight.

Pen Air operates out of B, so they certainly could use those gates for Q400 flights. But yes it makes sense to put the E175 flights there first so they can take proper advantage of the jetways and free up space in the A pit

The Port is spending $200M on a terminal rebalancing project that starts this summer. Alaska is a big part of it.

Thank god. It's about time. This could be a game changer for Alaska and also for passengers who are fed up with the situation.

I guess Port finally realized something needed to be done and hopefully, it means some upgrading and major improvements.

According to PDXNext, they're moving Southwest to the expanded terminal E?

Moving Southwest, from what I read but no mention of anything regarding Alaska or the pit.... something has to be done with that mess.
