I stopped flying Delta and jetBlue on my monthly flights because of this, even though more than half my searches recently had better flight times on those carriers. Only if we stop supporting them now will UA and AA not make the jump.
I think I saw how Delta feels about regular economy filiers like me when I emailed them asking why they weren't competitive with all others on half the miles for one-way on Awards and the reply pretty much said "if you don't like it you're free to leave." I did. I won't fly them now if they're the only flight where I'm going.

After booking a YEG-HKG ticket back in May and checking things over tonight about earning I find the choice is either 5 X $88 base with DL or 50% of miles ex SEA for flying DL in "V" class, roughly 6500 miles plus the YEG-SEA AS/QX connectors. Not hard to make a decision but had hoped until these changes announced I'd have a good headstart on AS elite status.

Unless you managed to dump the YQ surcharge on your ticket, your math is wrong. Mileage is based on both base fare and DL imposed YQ surcharge, not base fare alone. It's the same number that is used for MQD calculation.

Even if there were YQ total ticket price of 460 X 5 vs. 50% AS miles in V class is not a hard choice.

I flew a similar YYZ-HKG fare last month, so I know there is a YQ (actually YR now that I checked -- which is treated the same as YQ) in these fares. $90 base + $248.40 YR. Yes, you will still earn much more at 50% mileage earning on such cheap fares, but I don't see that as a rationale for posting misleading info.

Am I calculating this right? As an MVP Gold 75k flying on an A fare MSY-LAX-SFO, I get:
2170 actual miles flown (well, this counts a 500 per-segment minimum, which might not be the case after applying the fare class modifier, but assume for now)
1627 A fare class bonus miles (EQM counting)
4746 75k bonus RDM (non-EQM) miles (125% of 2170+1627, not just 2170).
That makes buying A/P fares on delta quite a bargain if they are competitive (as this one was).
ETA: Per a supervisor in Customer Care, this is correct. Elite Mileage Bonus stacks on top of the earned fare class bonus with Delta. So a F/P fare would actually earn 100% bonus EQM on actual miles flown (from fare class), and 100% + 250% for a whopping 350% bonus RDM on actual miles flown!

I don't think so, but would love to be told I'm wrong.
From reading the new chart, I would expect to get 100% + 100% for fare class F/P + 125% as a 75k = 325%.
