There is no COS on revenue earning, just 5 SPs per dollar spent on fare paid less fees & taxes. When booking with a partner, fare isn't known, so earnings will be a percentage of base miles flown.

So one of the things people have seen as problematic (to put it diplomatically) is that a international J flight booked on AS.com will earn 100% flight distance with the distance based earnings choice, and a flight on the same route booked with the partner will earn 250% in J
We don't know that. Nowhere does AS say that both revenue and distance earnings will have elevated earnings on partner domestic or international J/F.

I get a headache every time I think about how this might work in the future and probably get it wrong most of the time. Hence my prefix "My understanding:"

For partner site bookings, since AS won't know the revenue numbers, aren't those credited based on distance no matter what the selection of earnings is?

Someone needs to write the "Atmos Rewards mileage points earnings for Dummies and notquiteaff" book.

Given the cutover to this choice earn should be in the next few weeks? (With HA being fully on to the same Rez system)

Can anyone here with contracts try to request to get more clarity?

weve been pretty quiet and alot of leeway given we are now a quarter into the earning year and no idea how the rest of the year is gonna play out.

I have a trip booked in AA O class on BA on april 22. Would love to see that earn the full distance. In fact it would modify my thoughts on upgrading the ticket of its gonna still earn 25 percent. But later in 2026 is now having a negative impact revenue wise with AS. Im booking away more now especially to SAS.

this can have more material increase in Atmos revenue with clear rules and earning charts and timeline.

That is correct.

I took at stab at it here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/37672598-post1097.html

Of course that's still subject to change until the new program is officially announced.

I don't think "later in 2026" means in a few weeks. It could literally be any time between tomorrow and Dec 31.

I would like to think that the cutover date would be announced and choice selection be made available months (not weeks) in advance, thus I find it highly unlikely that a trip on April 22 would be impacted by choice earnings.

This is so complicated, I am going to need to feed each flight into some AI service to calculate points and status in the future instead of just using the simple spreadsheets I've been using for years.

It's really not any more complicated than what we have now. In fact, with 500 mile minimum going away and CoS bonus for "earn by distance traveled" choice going away, one could argue that it gets a tiny bit less complicated.

Especially the "earn by distance traveled" choice becomes really simple with only a few rules to know:
.
  1. RDP and SP earn actual distance traveled, except no RDP on award tickets
  2. no CoS bonus
  3. elite bonus for RDP on revenue tickets only
Now for "earn by price paid" choice there are a few more nuances:
.
  1. base earnings are either:
    1. 1 point earned per 20 points redeemed for award tickets [SP only], or
    2. 5 points earned per $1 spent (before taxes and fees) for revenue tickets booked with AS, or
    3. actual distance traveled for revenue tickets booked with partner
  2. CoS bonus only applies to revenue tickets booked with partner
  3. elite bonus same as above
I think that's pretty much all there's to it (disclaimer: preliminary interpretation, subject to change).

This is true when the new program changes actually roll out. For rest of 2026 I need to compare existing setup to both distance and earn options for future options, and compare against crediting to other programs. I have a bunch of pending partner trips and cannot count on any certainty for AS so right now its a crapshoot as to what to do with those. Would be nice if they at least gave us certainty by saying that any "later in 2026" changes only impact 2027 and beyond since we are already 1/4 the way through the year and could be 1/2 or maybe even 3/4 by the time they give us more details.

I don't believe that has been confirmed.

If I were betting, and I'm not, my play money might be on a May 1 announcement and July 1 effective. The sharps would probably bet the Over.

Unfortunately, no one can do that. AS hasn't disclosed sufficient information for an accurate compilation. We can take a stab at it, but it is still speculation based on a lot of ambiguity.

For those in team "Keep it as it is" - I hope it keeps getting deferred. I want my 500 point minimum *and* my flown RDM.

Is there a thread discussing the 25,000 companion award cert? Point me to it if so because I certainly need help.

Both my husband and I have the awards. Today was my first attempt to use it. Foolish me, I found it requires a round trip ticket. I don't think I have ever booked a round trip international ticket. I grab seats when I can find them, always one way, and then search over weeks or months til I find the return. Yes, I know the Ts and Cs say "Valid for one-way or round-trip itineraries in any class of service and itinerary available for Atmos Rewards award redemption on Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, or Alaska's global partners including the oneworld Alliance." But the website thought otherwise.

I really should read the Ts and Cs before griping. Apparently it's only good on Alaska and Hawaiian. I can't use it on the massively inflated partner awards.

Routes: Valid for award redemptions systemwide on eligible Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and partner flights as available at AlaskaAir.com.

Yet, Ts and Cs also say:

Valid for one-way or round-trip itineraries in any class of service and itinerary available for Atmos Rewards award redemption on Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, or Alaska's global partners including the oneworld Alliance.

Perhaps I can find award space from SAN to Mexico, such as Cabo?? Has anyone tried that?

So:
Can I use one way? Who has been successful?
Can I use on partners? Who has been successful?

It does not. I've used it on a one way ticket no problem.

Also not true. I used it on an EI partner award.
