Hmmmm. Only thing I can think of is that your passport photo is significantly different than how you look now, or is old, or some other thing.

I have the same issue, My current passport photo I have no beard, but now have quite a large one. I can never get through the automated passport gates all over Europe, I always get punted to a person. In Finland the border guard says it's a common problem where the shape of your face appears to have changed. But I haven't had a problem with TSA Touchless the one time I have used it.

I very much believe that biometrics and facial recognition are allowed in airports....but the official word is that you cannot use technology to actively identify and track via cameras in public airports (or subway stations, train stations, on the street, in stores, etc.) .

If they are in fact using China type surveillance in airports....why this dog and pony show of the "illusion" of opting into the touchless program....when we are all already enrolled...so why not just allow all of us to be at security with just a checkmark from our big brother overlords and save us all the time and hassle of giving our ID to TSA officers for the illusion of privacy.

The touchless Pre-check worked flawlessly a few weeks ago at PDX for both my wife and I so it will be a nice feature to have going forward from my home airport. I decided to try it out at checkpoint 5 in SEA this afternoon and it was a no-go when I stepped up to the camera. Despite having the correct touchless icon on my boarding pass the TSA agent said that I still needed to provide ID but there was no literally nobody in line so it didn't make much of a difference in this case but I'm glad it works so well at PDX.

My last 8 trips out of SEA and checkpoint 5 there has not been anyone manning the terminal- uhhhh, no one is available. Typically morning between 8 am and 10 am weekday.

So for a large metropolitan airport like SEA, there is one terminal available for touchless precheck? Wow...why do they bother.

Got to try this for the first time at DCA today. I literally entered the security line, and then was picking up my bag from the other side of the scanner 45 seconds later.

Dont really understand why anyone would have CLEAR if rollout continues apace.

According to thread SEA Checkpoint Changes (8/11/2025), checkpoint 3 also offers touchless PreCheck at SEA. May want to give that a shot next time if the one at checkpoint 5 is unmanned again, provided you have the time/inclination to detour to checkpoint 3.

Correct, it's supposed to be available at both checkpoint 3 and checkpoint 5. Unfortunately, it does seem to be a "if the machine is working, if the machine is staffed" situation at SEA ☹️

Even if it's not working they still make you stand there and get your photo taken as you hand over your ID... seems like those photo machines could do double duty.

Don't have touchless on my boarding pass for a flight tomorrow after I've had it for all my recent Alaska flights. Maybe because this one is international?

Every time I've gone through at SEA an agent has been there and there's been no wait at all. It's also gotten a bit more organized over time. On the other hand on a recent trip at LAX I had it on my boarding pass but the person at the entry didn't recognize it or know where I should go when I asked (and there were signs that all seemed to point different directions) so I just went to the regular precheck line (which also had no wait)

Tried it in SEA, was told machine down so back in the long Pre line you go.

Finally worked when I was departing from DCA, it's going to give CLEAR a run for its money alright. Faster than having to go to CLEAR > escorted to TSA > show BP.
