Remember that there are people who live here and fly interisland because that's how you get between islands, and there's kind of a lot of us. With all respect to AS, I don't think it would be easy for HA to decide to buy some airplanes and compete on intra-Alaska routes, nor would it be easy for AS to jump in here. Now if AS wanted to buy HA (it's cheap!) and leave the operation mostly alone, I'd be a happy man. HA is a good airline operationally, but IT, the call center, and the frequent flier plan leave a lot to be desired. Unfortunately I don't think that fits either carrier's strategy very well.

+1. I hated losing out on the segments, but I had to fly HA OGG-LIH last month. Somehow I couldn't justify flying OGG-OAK/SJC/SEA-LIH on my vacation.

I enjoyed flying HA. Inflight crews were great and the plane was clean. I wasn't real impressed by their ground ops at OGG, though. Everything seemed very disjointed.

You forgot OGG-PDX-LIH (seasonal I know)

Haven't had the time yet, but am tempted to book an interisland flight like this some time

Agent: You're flying where how?!
