Niki takeover blocked; flights cancelled

“The government will do everything it can to limit the damage to the tax payer,” he added.

Lufthansa said it still planned to buy Air Berlin subsidiary LGW and would submit a revised proposal, including foregoing slots, to the Commission on Wednesday.

"Lufthansa informed Air Berlin and its insolvency managers that it will pursue the planned transaction without the purchase of Niki," Lufthansa said in a statement.

Oh lord, we have a flight on Niki in a few days but not from Vienna. Where can one find their statement on this issue? We are flying out of Innsbruck.

Going to be a very unpleasant next couple days wondering if we're left stranded.

Handelsblatt reports insolvency filing

Handelsblatt reports that Niki has filed for insolvency this afternoon.

Bleak outlook for those with flights booked on Niki.
