We're due to arrive from MEL about the time NZ6 starts boarding ... we've only a 5 hour transit before NZ2
(Flight schedules changed after booking and transit became less than an hour)

Agreed. Have never met an FT'er where rendezvous was unarranged.

Why do you need guesting in? It says under your name that you're an Air NZ Gold member.

If you are both flying together then you can guest your son in (limit 1 guest per *G passenger).
