There is no AU Commonwealth hot spot. That's part of the interstate problem. Each state has its own rules to determinate a hot spot in another state or NZ.
ScoMo has tried to have a common definition. Worked for the first NZ-AU bubble suspension, but for the 2nd QLD went it alone. Other individual states followed.
In AU the feds control the international airports & distribute the (borrowed) money (jobkeeper, etc), but each state/territory has its own Covid-19 response based on state/territory health regulations/laws (and state politics/ when the next state election is). The rules for NZ-AU/AU-NZ are easier understood than crossing state/territory borders

According to Information that TVNZ have received the Tasman Bubble could start effective this Friday.

Does look like NZ is running daily AKL-SYD flights from this Friday too!

If so the PM has really been cornered and forced to do something she didnt want. Represents a massive loss of control for her and bursts her "bubble" around how wonderful NZ is and how she has led us to salvation.

Very much looking forward to going to AU again!

Take the politics to OMNI, this was clearly inevitable and let's keep it on topic

Ha this is a total political decision, nothing else.

But anyway, does anyone think fares will drop if the announcement is made today with a soonish start date? Is Air NZ the only airline currently flying TT?

Looked at flights for mid May and RT AKL-MEL// SYD-AKL was $1,140 Seat+bag

QF is flying SYD-AKL Mondays & Fridays.
QF & JQ will ramp up when full bubble is announced. A QF pdf timetable show more flights, but not yet able to be booked or showing in on line schedules

Well, it looks like Air NZ was right with April 19. Prices have also dropped in the last half hour to somewhat normal levels.

Conditions of travel

Any info on what will be required for flying quarantine free in the TT bubble?

Eg. Is it only for the few who are vaccinated, or is a recent (trusted) test enough?

In Aussie or NZ for 14 days prior.
No current requirement for testing.
May be need test for Queensland or after an outbreak.

One interesting aspect, based on the Govt guidelines for QFT (Quarantine Free Travel) released today (see below) is what happens if there is a "QFT Pause" or a "QFT Suspend".

What will the airlines do? Presumably allow free changes till after the pause or suspension
And what if you choose to return under a suspension and have to go into managed isolation. Will NZ citizens/ residents have to pay for this or will govt make it free?

Oh and does anyone know what is the situation for those on a work visa in NZ? can they travel under this?

Was discussed in the press conference.

You shelter in Aussie.
If you manage to get a MIQ slot (and if the airlines do red flights) won't pay for MIQ the 6 month isn't applicable.
What happens with flights is up to T&C's

MIQ is open to Citizens, PRs & people with exemptions.

Travellers should also check with employers what the consequences would be if the traveller gets stranded, especially for a situation that requires 2 weeks MIQ. Burn remaining annual leave? Burn sick leave? Take leave without pay? Is termination of employment possible?

Especially thinking of wage earners rather than those on decent salaries....
