It's just a new safety video, Crazy about Rugby Volume 2 - given the RWC is around the corner.

More like 3/4 of the market.. The focus on NYC (like Chicago) is bringing US pax to NZ. The greater NYC area is a massive captive market to get on a non stop flight to NZ. Literally every American has a secret dream of visiting NZ one day and many think it'll take them a week to get to NZ right now..

Many analysts who have written about how stupid it is for Air NZ to fly to EWR have totally overlooked this critical aspect of the business plan.

I wonder if they've got a CAA exemption to change their manual safety demonstrations to another day? Normally videos don't launch on the 1st.

Though a lot of planes won't have it on the first as they will have to load it. Unless they have room for multiple safety videos, so can preload?

There are multiple videos on most aircraft.

I think all they care about is the video playing on social media on 1 Aug. Given their safety videos are more of a marketing exercise, they wont be bending over backwards to make sure it is playing onboard on the 1st.

I think if LHR-PER and DOH-AKL can be done, then AKL-NYC should be feasible.

Though LHR-PER is a 787-9 with GE engines and not Trent and DOH-AKL a 777-200LR. Do the AirNZ 789s have the config for the route or would they need a v3? Which is lower density again? And need at least three of the aircraft to do the route and cover maintenance.

Seems very New York-ish!

Maybe its it’s going to be AKL-EWR, with the new safety video playing on that.

Could have have arranged an All Blacks v USA game in New York post RWC as an promo opportuniy?

I'm still a firm believer Air NZ are going to launch EWR with a code3 789 a lot sooner than many predict. I just don't see tomorrow being that day (and tomorrow is just about the safety video at present).

And when you do want one (or a renewal) it does take up to 6 weeks.

We just about complain when a standard service takes more than 3 days..
