It means nothing. It is all about status tiers, what type of upgrade it is, and within those buckets first come first serve.

Ive had the same experience. A flight attendant told me they regularly see one spouse ditch the other and take the upgrade. They must have been braver than me 😂😂

If just one of us got an upgrade, we'd discuss who got it. We don't need to be sat next to each other when one of us can have a significantly better experience, especially if one of us has to go to work on arrival, etc.

My significant other and I have a deal. If this happens to us, the first time, he will take the upgrade. The next time it happens, I will take the upgrade: and then we will keep alternating. The one exception being if it's a work trip and I have to work the next day.
On a Virgin Australia this once happened and I have away my upgrade to him. The flight attendants were very surprised and gave me special treatment back in economy, haha.

Good day All,
March 09th will be two years since I have flown on NZ, in fact flown any further than two 50 min Q400 flights.
I feel like a newbie all over again as to process.
About to book 8 PE seats YVR-AKL-YVR Dec outbound Jan return with hopes the Warden keeps to her word the border will be open to all by then.
Question. If I book all 8 on one PNR, is it possible for me to request RU & APD upgrades online for just 2 of the 8 pax?
