Boeing Factory

Went to visit Everett on Sunday, airnz 787-9 was on display....great looking plane. The trip was woeful insofar as it was full of cliches and loud Americans. They talked up 747-8 even though they were only building 1.5 per month. Well worth a trip if you set aside Kiwi sensibilities etc. im now in Alaska......cannot believe I have never been here before! Back to SEA on Sunday then off to Boeing museum.

That's quite awesome to hear!

I was in Seattle November last year for a week, and yet managed to completely avoid doing a Boeing tour and the Museum of Flight... just remembered drinking waaay too much beer, and coffee, and parties...

How long is the tour? I'll actually be in that part of the world this September, and definitely should do the above this time round.

IIRC you should make a reservation in advance for the Boeing tours.

Thanks for the heads up! Just did a quick search and found where to book on-line. Once I have my flight plans finalized, will definitely book ahead.

Yes, both are worth doing and definitely book well ahead for the Boeing factory tour.

The Museum of Flight in Seattle is the best I've been to and is well connected via public transport (route #124 from downtown). The Boeing factory is quite a way out so you'll either need a car, taxi ($) or use one of the tour companies to get there.

I visited in April. I rented an intermediate size car from Avis which only cost $30 a day and earned Airpoints. It's easily $150 in New Zealand. Definitely rent a car.

+1 on the Museum of flight. it's massive and a really good exhibition. Fantastic specialist exhibitions on WWI and II, a space section and the outside air park with the Nixon-era AF1, a 727 etc. very cool. I think they have a Shuttle now too.

As for Boeing tour.. it's pretty good. I first went in 1995, then again in 2012. They've built a whole new reception/tour area at Everett now and it's pretty fancy (complete with overpriced cafe, and a neat store) and the tour is pretty good even if you roll your eyes at the spin. It's pretty brilliant going along to the 777 and 787 lines imho. Definitely worth going, but I'd rate Museum of Flight higher
