What fare class should I be looking for?

I'm planning on buying a NW (a must for me) issued ticket for AF flight. I'm looking to upgrade using FB miles. Few questions:
-- What fare class should the NW-issued, AF-operated flight be booked in? I know it's B and Y for NW issued and operated. Is it the same for AF?

-- What upgrade bucket should I be looking for? I know it's Z and U on NW - if those are available on AF metal flight but NW coded, do I get it or do I have to look for actual AF buckets even though the ticket will have NW flight # on it? What are AF upgrade buckets?

if it is NW coded, good luck with upgrades. Try and get the flights coded as AF flights. Get K-class or higher and look for O-class availability.

No upgrades on NW-coded / AF-operated flights. You would need to have your flights booked under the AF code (if issuing your ticket in the U.S. you can sure ask NW to issue the ticket on their 012 ticket stock, but the segments on AF still have to be AF-coded).
